Task 1 – Establish the Project Resources and Requirements

Project Resources

People –

The manufacture of the component will require someone with Composite manufacturing skills.

Eventually the component will also need to be fitted by training mechanical fitter

Time –

The time constraints were those of the college project, the official Lynx project timescale was more of less ASAP.

Finance –

The costs for the project will include overheads such as electric and heating to provide a safe working condition.

Other costs would be that of the material.

Labour costs.

Project Requirements

To re-design and manufacture a one off part used for the World Speed Record Lynx Project.

The part will be to resemble to original Intermediate Gearbox Smoothing Fairing.

The part must be made to the drawing.

The part must be cost effective and use (as much as possible) in-house manufacturing methods.

The part must be designed with newer and if possible cheaper processes.

Task 2 – Produce a plan with appropriate time-scales for completing the project

Task 3 - Identify Human Resources needs and costs associated with each stage of the project

Stage 1 - History and Research –

The costs associated with this part of the project were low; the research only required my own labour cost and the various overheads on electricity, heating and water which applied to my whole office.

Labour Rate Hours TotalSteve Goddard £10 per hour 30 £300

Stage 2 – Design –

The design stage got a bit more complex, more people were added to the project. This consisted of the Lynx Project team; we came up with various concept ideas which would be looked at during Lynx Project meetings.

So the first Human resource would be the Lynx Project team and the wages for them.

The other costs would be material testing for experimentation.

Labour Rate Hours TotalSteve Goddard £10 per hour 60 £600

Owen Asstington £12 per hour 6 £72Bram Ward £10 per hour 4 £40Kev Dibben £10 per hour 4 £40

Chris Hockley £10 per hour 4 £40Chris Sandhurst £10 per hour 4 £40

Stage 3 – Manufacture –

The manufacture is potentially the most costly part of the project. The costs of manufacture are as follows:

Material Cost – Costs incurred by procuring the required material.

Labour Cost – Owen Asstington has agreed to do the work as an apprentice composite fitter.

Overheads – Various overheads like electric, heating and water will be required.

Machine time – This will cost the company money as the machines we are using may be able to be used on other jobs that will be profitable to the company.

Machinery and equipment – This will come in the cost of resin (if we don’t use prepreg composites).

Stage 4 – Installation –

Installation will require a trained fitter, this will be an apprentice.

Tools and equipment to assemble to IGB fairing to the aircraft will be required

Owen Asstington £12 per hour 3 £36
