    THE PERIOD OF 1991..

    The Department of Electronics broke thisimpasse creating a corporation called SoftwareTechnology Parks of India (STPI) Owned by thegovernment.

    Which Had its own monopoly. STPI set up software technology parks in different cities.

    Each provided satellite links to be used by firms; the locallink was a wireless radio link.

    The first use of ATM magstripe cards is said tohave been made in 1969 when Docutel installed itsDocuteller machine at New York's Chemical Bank.This is the first recorded use of magnetically

    encoded plastic. Donald C Wetzel is given credit for developing the

    machine for Docutel. Docutel was the first to applyfor a patent and is credited by the SmithsonianMuseum as inventor of the ATM.

    In 1987, India get one when the Hongkong andShanghai Banking Corporation(HSBC) introducesthe ATM concept in India in 1987.

    WHO INVENTED THE ATM? WHO INVENTEDTHE FIRST AUTOMATIC CASH DISPENSER?

    Inventor John Shepherd-Barron installed theworld's first automatic cash dispenser at aBarclays Bank branch near London in 1967. Themachine was made by De La Rue Instruments and

    it used paper vouchers that had to be purchasedfrom tellers in advance. The machine was calledthe De La Rue Automatic Cash System, or DACS.John Shepherd-Barron, 79, was named an Officerof the Order of the British Empire (OBE) forservices to banking on December 30, 2004.
