Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations 1

Business,Entrepreneurship andOrganizationsBusiness, Entrepreneurship and Organizations (BEO) is a multidisciplinaryconcentration that provides a rigorous and synergistic program in thestudy of commercial activity grounded in economics, sociology andengineering. BEO focuses on the formation, growth, and organizationof new ventures, innovation in commercial applications, financialmarkets and the marketplace, and management and organizationaltheory. Concentrators seek to understand the basic principles, approachesand vocabulary relevant to the study of entrepreneurship from thedisciplines of economics, organizational sociology and engineering.Building on this multidisciplinary base, students develop specializedexpertise in one of the three disciplinary approaches, with specialemphasis on critical reasoning and quantitative research methods. In senior year capstone projects, students apply and integrate multi-disciplinary learning by working in groups on real world projects, includingthe creation of new ventures. BEO students interested in the theory andpractice of addressing social challenges might consider the EngagedScholars Program (https://www.brown.edu/academics/college/special-programs/public-service/engaged-scholars-program/engaged-scholars-program).

The three tracks of the concentration are as follows:

1. Business Economics2. Organizational Studies3. Entrepreneurship and Technology Management

Upon completion of all concentration requirements, students receivethe Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) degree in Business, Entrepreneurship andOrganizations.
