rights to Santa Ana River

OCWD general information

• OCWD is governed by a 10-person Board of Directors

• Non-adjudicated groundwater basin • Each year, the Board sets the percentage of

groundwater that can be pumped (BPP) • Each year, the Board approves the Replenishment

Assessment (RA) and Basin Equity Assessment (BEA) for the cost of pumping groundwater

Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS)

GWRS Final Expansion (GWRSFE)

• Will increase the capacity of the GWRS from 100 MGD to 130 MGD • Provides 134,000 acre-feet per year of supply to the

groundwater basin—enough water for over 1 million people

• CEQA and Engineers report was approved by the Board in September 2016

• Will apply for grant funding through Proposition 1 and State Revolving Fund (SRF) loans

• Design has started, construction to bid within 1.5 years and project completion will be in 2023

GWRS Final Expansion (GWRSFE) projects

• Budget $253 million

• OCSD Plant No. 2 (P2) effluent pump

station

• OCSD Plant No. 2 headworks modification

Benefits of GWRS

• Proactive outreach • No active opposition • 200+ tours of GWRS each year

World-wide support for water reuse

• Expand GWRS

• Increase stormwater storage behind Prado Dam

• Water efficiency and conservation measures

• Explore MET indirect potable reuse project

• Explore ocean water desalination.
