TRANSCRIPT

The strength of the economy is underpinned by the manufacturing sector which represents 34.7% (April 2014) of total output and has adapted well to recent economic changes.

The main development of this sector was traditionally based on serving the automotive industry. The skills developed have seen many of these firms diversify into other industries and there is evidence of increasing productivity.

Advanced manufacturing is defined as the manufacturing of globally competitive, high value-added products by the application of the world’s best practice technologies, processes and services. Local significant companies in this sector are Redarc, SMR - Samvardhana Motherson Reflectec, Carl Zeiss Vision, Seeley International, RPC Pipe Systems and Siemens.

The State Government recognises the importance of advanced manufacturing to the State’s economy and has invested in the development of Tonsley Park which will attract high technology businesses and research facilities. This will provide employment for the workforce in the City of Onkaparinga.
