approved by the Board in July.

BAF supports businessmember organisations(BMOs) with funding andcapacity building so that theycan engage more effectivelyin private public dialogue andto advocate an improvedbusiness environment inKenya.
Advocacy Grant s Appro ved
Two advocacy grants have been approved by the Board asfollows:
I ns t i t u t i on o f Su r veyo r s o f Kenya ( I SK) : The I SK
Ac t ( S t a t u t es )
ISK wants to engage the government with the tacit supportof MoL to develop amendments to the existing statutes (the
Survey Act, Valuers Act and Estate Agents Act) to requiremandatory membership of land professionals to their
professional institutes/associations. The purpose is to
introduce self-regulation by professional bodies withappropriate disciplinary procedures to reduce the incidences
of misrepresentation by non-professionals with strongerenforcement and compliance procedures.
Self-regulation will result in improvement in practice on landand real estate through enforcement of a code of practice by
all involved. This will give an all encompassing legislation forthe various disciplines including entry, training, regulation
and disciplinary mechanisms.
Kenya Pou l t r y Farm ers Associa t ion ( KEPOFA) : The
Na t iona l Pou l t r y Deve lopm en t Po l i c y and B i l l
In 2007, KEPOFA in partnership with the Ministry of Livestock
Development (MoLD), successfully formulated a NationalPoultry Development Policy. In April, 2010, the Cabinet
approved the National Poultry Development Policy which was
printed as the Sessional Paper No.2 of 2010. After theCabinet approval, KEPOFA and MoL developed a draft Poultry
Bill
KEPOFA now wants to lobby for the Poultry Policy to be
adopted by Parliament as a Sessional Paper and immediatelyafter, lobby for the Poultry Bill to be passed by Parliament.
KEPOFA has indicated that an appropriate policy/regulatoryenvironment will eliminate or minimize constraints in theindustry; leading to the optimal exploitation of the poultry
industry in Kenya. This has the potential of resulting inincreased food security, nutrition security and empowerment
of women poultry farmers; thereby improving agriculturalsector incomes particularly for women in the rural areas.
