Bushmaster does not recommend the use of remanufactured or hand loaded ammunition because it may damage your rifle and/or cause your firearm to malfunction.

WARNING:THIS FIREARM COULD CHAMBER A ROUND if it is dropped or jarred with a loaded magazine in place - either with the Bolt Carrier Assembly locked to the rear, or in its forward position.

• ALWAYS KEEP THE FIREARM POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.

• NEVER LOAD THE FIREARM UNTIL READY TO USE.

• KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO SHOOT.

•BesureCamPinisinstalledintheBoltGroup.Ifitisn’t,yourFirearmcanstillfireandCOULD MALFUNCTION CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

•WhenusingaBlank Firing Attachment, NEVER FIRE ANYTHING EXCEPT BLANKS!Foryoursafety,werecommendthevisible,militarystyleblankfiringattachment(BFIPart#RAY-008).

•Ifyourfirearmstopsfiringwithaliveroundinthechamberofahotbarrel(amisfire),REMOVE THE ROUND FAST! However,ifyoucannotremoveitwithin10seconds,removemagazineandwait15minuteswith the Firearm pointing in a SAFE DIRECTION! Thiswayyouwon’tbehurtbyapossibleround“cooking-off”(i.e.therounddetonatingjustfromtheheatofthebarrel).Keepyourfaceawayfromtheejectionportwhileclearingahotchamber.

•Ifyourboltfailstounlock,andyoutrytofreeitbytappingthebuttstockonthegroundwhilepullingonthecharginghandle,keep yourself clear of the Muzzle and the Firearm pointed down range.

•Ifthereiswaterinthebarrel,donotfiretherifle.IT COULD MALFUNCTION CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

•Pullthecharginghandletothereartobreakthesealtoensurethewaterwillrunofffromthechamberthroughtheejectionportarea.

•Ifanoticeabledifferenceinsoundorrecoilisexperienced,STOP FIRING! Eitherconditioncouldindicateanincompletepowderburnand/orabulletorotherobstructionstuckinthebore.

•TaketheFirearmtoaqualifiedgunsmithandhaveobstructionsremoved.•NOTE: WiththeBoltCarrierAssemblylockedtotherear,orinitsforwardposition,iftheFirearmis

droppedorjarredwithaloadedmagazineinplace,aliveroundcouldbechambered.

ThisOperatingManualcoverstheBushmaster ACR (“ACR”)whichischamberedin5.56mmNATO/223Remingtonand6.8mmRemingtonSPCammunition.Itisagaspiston,air-cooledshoulderfired,magazine-fedFirearm,thatisSemi-Automaticinoperation(i.e.,asingleroundwillfireeachtimethetriggerispulled).

•TheACRBarrelsarecoldhammerforgedandholdthetightesttoleranceallowed.Theyarerifledwitheithera1turnin7”forheaviergrainweightbulletsor1turnin9”forlighterbulletswitharighthandtwist–6landsandgrooves.

•TheACRisoperatedbyaregulated,short-strokeGasPistonSystemwhicheliminateshotgasfrombeingin-troducedintotheUpperandLowerReceivers.TheRegulatorcanbesetforUnsuppressedorSuppressedfire.

•TheACRisamulti-caliberplatformandiscapableoftransitioningtoarangeofcaliberssimplybyswappingtheBarrelAssemblyandBolt,usingtheappropriateMagazine.SomecalibersmayrequireanalternatelowertoacceptdifferentsizedMagazines.

•AllACRUpperandLowerReceiversareeasilyopenedforcleaningandinspection.

•TheUpperReceiverismadeofextrudedAluminumandtheLowerReceiverismadeofaproprietarycompositepolymer.

•MostACRmodelsfeaturefullyadjustablerearsights/elevationadjustablefrontsights.

•TheBoltGrouplocksintotheBarrelExtensionwith7lockinglugs.

•AllmodelscanbeconfiguredwitheitheraFixedStockor7positionTelescoping/FoldingStock.

•Allmodelsfeatureverticalpistolgripsanddetachablemagazines.Magazinecapacityis30roundsstandard(dependingonStateRegulations),butallAR-15/M-16typemagazinesofcapacitiesfrom5to40roundswillfittheACRandfunctioninit.

ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RULES OF SAFE FIREARM HANDLING. First,assumethefirearmyouarehandlingisloaded,andthenproceed-accordingtothefollowingsteps-toCLEAR YOUR FIREARM . . .

1.PointFirearminaSAFE DIRECTION! PlaceSafetySelectorLeveronSAFE.

NOTE: If the Firearm is not cocked, the Safety Selector Lever cannot be pointed toward SAFE.

2.PressMagazineReleaseButtonandpullMagazinedowntoremove.

3.TolockBoltopen,pullChargingHandlerearward.PressupwardontheBoltCatchandallowBolttomoveforwarduntilitengagestheBoltCatch.Ifyouhaven’tbefore,nowplaceSafetySelectorLeveronSAFE.

WARNING! IfFirearmfailsanyofthefollowingtests,continueduseoftheFirearmcouldcauseamalfunctioncausingpersonalinjury,propertydamageordeath.2.PlaceSelectorLeverinSAFE position,pointrifleinasafedirection,

andpulltheTrigger.THE HAMMER SHOULD NOT FALL.3.PlaceSelectorLeverinFIRE position.PulltheTrigger.

THE HAMMER SHOULD FALL.

NOTE: Forpurposesofthefollowingcheck,“SLOW”isdefinedasonefourthtoonehalfthenormalrateoftriggerrelease.

4.HoldTriggertotherear,pullChargingHandletotherearandreleaseChargingHandle.ThenreleasepressureontheTriggerwithaslow,smoothmotion,withouthesitationsorstops,untiltheTriggerisfullyforward.

AN AUDIBLE CLICK SHOULD BE HEARD - THE HAMMER SHOULD NOT FALL.

5.RepeattheFIREpositiontestFIVE TIMES.TheFirearmmustnotmalfunctionduringanyofthesefivetests.PulltheChargingHandletotherearonelasttimeandreleaseforward.

6.PlacetheSelectorLeverinSAFEposition.PulltheTrigger.THE HAMMER SHOULD NOT FALL.IftheFirearmmalfunctionsduringanyofthesefivetests,havetheFirearmcheckedbyaqualifiedgunsmith.

PREPARING TO FIRE - LOADING A MAGAZINE…

1.Useonlyquality5.56mm/223RemingtonAmmunitioninyourFirearm(or6.8mmRemingtonSPCifapplicable).ExamineeachCartridge-particularlyaroundtheprimer.Lookfordents,scratches,andothersignsofdamage.

DO NOT LOAD DAMAGED AMMUNITION!

2.WiththeMagazinefacingforward,asshownintheillustration,placeaRoundbetweentheFeedLipsoftheMagazinewiththeBulletTipforward.PushtheRounddownuntilitisheldbytheMagazineFeedLips.

3.Ifnecessary,givetheRoundaslightpushbackwardtoseatitagainsttheinsidebackedgeoftheMagazineFeedLips.PlacenextRoundontopofthepreviousRoundandrepeatstepsuntildesirednumberofRoundsareloadedintoMagazine.

CAUTION! SafeFirearmsHandlingdictatesthatyouONLY LOAD LIVE AMMUNITION INTO YOUR RIFLE WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO SHOOT.

5.TaptheChargingHandletoassisttheBoltforwardtoensuretheBoltislocked.

6.Squeezethetriggertofire.

REMEDIAL ACTIONS…

1.IfyourFirearmstillfailstofireafterperformingImmediateActionSteps1through5onpreviouspage,checkagainforajammedcartridgecase.

2.Ifacartridgecaseisinthechamber,openthereceivers,removetheboltcarrier,andtrytotapoutthecasewithacleaningrod.

IF FIREARM STILL FAILS TO FIRE CHECK THE TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION IN THIS MANUAL OR TAKE THE FIREARM TO A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH.

WARNING: IF YOUR FIREARM STOPS FIRING WITH A LIVE ROUND IN THE CHAMBER OF A HOT BARREL, REMOVETHE ROUND IMMEDIATELY. However,ifyoucannotremoveitwithin10seconds,removetheMagazineandwait15minuteswiththeFirearmpointinginasafedirection(alwayscheckthatthe“SAFE”directionremainssafeduringthattime).Thiswayyouandthosearoundyouwon’tgethurtbythepossibilityofaround“cookingoff”.

WARNING: IF AN AUDIBLE “POP” OR REDUCED RECOIL IS EXPERIENCED DURING FIRING, IMMEDIATELY CEASE FIRE: Then,1.RemovetheMagazine. 2.LocktheBolttotherear.

4.Visuallyinspectand/orinsertaCleaningRodintotheBoretoensurethereisnotaBulletstuckintheBore.

DO NOT APPLY THE “IMMEDIATE ACTIONS” DESCRIBED ON PREVIOUS PAGES. IF A BULLET IS STUCK IN THE BARREL OF THE FIREARM, DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE IT. TAKE THE FIREARM TO A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH.

TheFrontSightPostisthreaded-allowingittobemovedupordownforElevationAdjustmentswhen“Zeroing”theRearSight(see“ZeroingYourSights”onnextpage).OncetheRearSightisZeroed,theFrontSightPostshouldnotbemoved.

REAR BACK UP SIGHTTheRearBackUpSightfeaturestwoaperturesandwhennotusedcanbefoldeddownflat.Toreturntotheuppositionpresseitherthesidetabs.

NORMAL RANGE APERTURE:ThesmallerApertureisthedefaultsettingandisusedformostfiringsituations,optimizedfor100-300meters.

SHORT RANGE APERTURE: RotatetheNormalRangeApertureforwardanddowntorevealtheShortRangeAperture.Thisapertureisusedforrangesof0-100meters,allowingalargerfieldofview.

WhennotinusetheFrontandRearSightscanbefoldeddownflat.Toreturnelevatesightspressdowneitherthesidetabsordownontheforwardportionofeithersighttoengagethespringloadedrelease.Toremovethesights,loosenandremovetheLockingBoltandguidethesightsforwardofftheendoftheMIL-STD-1913PicatinnyTopRail.

FollowthestepsbelowtoestablishaZeroat25meters.YourMBUSTypeRifleSightswillthenbesetwitha300-meterbattlesightzero.Withthisprocedure,onlytheFrontSightPostandRearSightWindageKnobareadjustedsothatyoucanhityourPointofAimat300meters.

25 METER ZEROING PROCEDURES…

1.Placeanappropriate25MeterPaperSightingTarget25metersdownrangeandfollowthestepsbelowtoestablisha“battlesight”zero.DonotmovetheFrontSightPostatthistime.Itwassetatthefactoryandshouldbeverycloseto“Zero”.

2.Thesmaller(unmarked)RearSightApertureshouldbeintheUPposition.CentertheRearSightbyturningtheWindageKnobleftorright.Thiscreateswhatiscalled“MechanicalZeroWindage”.

3.Checkthatyourfieldoffireisclear,andthatitissafetoshoot.Carefullyaimandfireagroupofthreeshotsatthecenterofthetargetbullseye.

4.Inspectyourtarget-ifyourshotgroupisnotinthecenterofthebullseye,thesquaresonthetargetsheetwillhelpyoucalculatetherequired“clicks”necessarytomoveyournextshotgrouptowardthebullseye.

AFTER FIRING YOUR FIREARM, cleanitassoonaspossibletomakethejobeasierandtoavoidallowingthedevelopmentofanycorrosion.When your Firearm has not been fired youshouldcleanitatleastonceortwiceayearifyouliveinatemperateclimate,orasoftenasonceaweekinatropicalclimate.

If you get your Firearm wet, cleanitassoonaspossibletoavoidtheonsetofcorrosionorrust.

UseahighqualityFirearmcleaningkitthatincludesacleaningrod;swabholder;cottonflannelborepatches;pipecleaners;asmalltoothbrush;brasswirebristleboreandchamberbrushesandaCleaner/Lubricant/Preservative(CLPinArmyterminology).

After you have disassembled the Firearm, thoroughly clean, inspect and lubricate all parts according to the techniques described on following pages.

CLEANING THE BORE: TheboreofyourACRriflehasLandsandGroovescalledrifling.RiflingmakesthebulletspinveryfastasitmovesdowntheBoreanddownrange.Itisdifficulttopushanew,stiffBoreBrushthroughtheBore.Youwillfinditmucheasier,andmoreeffective,topull your Bore Brush through the Bore.Also,becausethebrushwillcleanbetterifthebristlesfollowthegrooves(thisiscalledtracking),youwanttheBoreBrushtobeallowedtoturnasyoupullitthrough.

To make cleaning the Bore easier, you may remove the barrel from the Upper and replace once the Bore and Chamber are cleaned. The zero ofthe barrel will not be lost.

ALWAYS CLEAN FROM THE CHAMBER TOWARD THE MUZZLE. Followthesesteps:

1.AttachthreeRodSectionstogetherbutleaveeachoneabouttwoturnsshortofbeingtight.AttachthePatchHolderbutleaveittwoturnsshortoftightalso.

2.PointMuzzledown.HoldtheUpperReceiverorBarrelAssemblyinonehandwhileinsertingtheendoftheRodwithPatchHolderattachedintotheChamber.GuidetheRodcarefullythroughtheBore.

CAUTION: DonotlettheRodoritsthreadedendscratchtheLiningoftheBoreorFiringChamber.About2-3inchesoftheRodshouldprotrudeoutoftheMuzzle.

3.AttachtheHandleSectionoftheCleaningRodtotheendoftheRodstickingoutoftheMuzzle,andswabouttheBorewithapatchmoistenedwith“CLP”.

6.Afteronepull,takeoffthehandlesectionandrepeattheprocess.Afterthreeorfourpulls,thethreerodsectionsandtheBoreBrushmaybecomescrewedtightlytogether.Loosenthemupandrepeattheprocess.

7.SendapatchthroughtheBoreoccasionallytohelpcleanoutthecrudthatthebrushisgettingloose.JustreplacetheBoreBrushwiththeRodTip(PatchHolder)andawetpatch.Pullitthrough.Ifyouleavetherodslooseagain,thepatchwill“track”intheriflingasbefore.Butremember,alwayshavetheBorewet with cleaner beforetryingtopullabrushthrough.
