Buryano, Buranke (Bulgarian Folk Dance) TRADITIONAL Arranged by SANDRA DACKOW Correlates with Orchestra Expressions, Book II Grade Level: 2 1 Conductor 8 1st Violin 8 2nd Violin 5 3rd Violin (Viola T.C.) 5 Viola 5 Cello 5 String Bass 1 Piano Accompaniment (for rehearsal only) INSTRUMENTATION NOTES TO THE CONDUCTOR Bulgarian folk music is noted for irregular rhythms. In this piece, the rhythms are straightforward but the phrases fall in groups of three measures rather than four. This simple and happy tune provides the basis for contrast and variation. For best results, keep all bow strokes, including eighth notes in the lower half of the bow. String crossing passages, especially, will be easier and the music will dance! Students will enjoy the double and triple stops, which are not difficult and really make the instruments ring! Any students having difficulty managing the multiple stops in the cello or viola parts may leave out the bottom notes, if desired, or the part may be divided. Correlated to Orchestra Expressions, Book II. NOTE FROM THE EDITOR All Belwin string parts have been carefully bowed and fingered appropriately by level. The Yellow Very Beginning series includes many bowings as well as reminder fingerings for first-time readers. The Red Beginning series includes frequent bowings to assist younger players. Fingerings for altered pitches are often marked. The Green Intermediate series includes appropriately placed bowings for middle-level students. Fingerings and positions are marked for notes beyond first position. The Blue Concert series includes bowings appropriate for the experienced high school player. Fingerings and position markings are indicated for difficult passages.
