here’s a real buzz around the Bury property market at the moment, so if you’re thinking of moving this year, now

could be the perfect time. Several excellent properties are currently on the market, with something to suit all budgets. Our featured property this month is The Gardens, a five-bedroom detached family home set in generous grounds in Norton. Turn to page 6 for more information.

If you’re a first-time buyer looking to make your very first leap into the wide world of homeownership, it’s worth taking a look at the delightful property in Poplar Way,

near RAF Honington, which comes in at under £120,000.

Several local agents have news to report too. Family estate agency Parson has opened a branch in Bury, aiming to offer top-quality customer service, whilst Abbey Sales and Lettings have expanded into a larger office, and are reporting a healthy level of activity in the town centre property market.

A new estate agency has also opened its doors, run by Mark Ewin, who brings over 15 years of local expertise, and offers free professional photography with every instruction to really make your property stand out from the crowd. Happy reading!

MARK EWINOpening its doors on St Johns Street for the first time in January, Mark Ewin is one of a handful of new estate agencies setting up or expanding in Bury town centre. Mark Ewin, who runs the eponymous estate agency, has worked in Bury itself for around 15 years. He wanted to continue working locally as “It’s somewhere that I’ve always enjoyed and I think it is a great town. I thought if I’m going to set up on my own I want it to be somewhere I like with a busy market.”

Bury St Edmunds is certainly not quiet when it comes to estate agencies, but Ewin views the recent influx as a bit of healthy competition that “gives the vendor a really good choice.”

Ewin explains how his firm sets itself apart: “We offer a free professional photographer with absolutely every instruction. It’s the first impression people get of a property, so we want to create the right impression and using professional photographs will encourage people to enquire.”

This estate agency has a ‘customer first’ approach and guarantees a swift response to all enquiries. “We call every single person back on the same day and respond to every email on the same day too; it’s just something we think is important. We also give viewing feedback within 24 hours. We are truly available seven days a week,” says Ewin.

Enquiries at Mark Ewin can range from first-time buyers right up to those looking for an executive home. Yet the estate agency’s aim remains the same for all: “We want to establish a trusted brand, where people are going to get sensible advice and really good marketing,” comments Ewin.

“We opened three weeks ago and the phones have been busier than I could have imagined,” Ewin concludes. “It’s really encouraging, and the number of people looking is phenomenal.”www.markewin.co.uk

Abbey Sales and Lettings might be relatively new to the Bury scene (it opened in 2011) but with the strong demand for homes in Bury town centre and the surrounding villages, the estate agency has moved to larger premises to better serve the busy Bury market.

“There just wasn’t enough space and no way of growing any further,” explains Abbey Sales and Lettings managing director Robert Love, who hopes to increase both his sales and lettings staff in the near future.

Abbey is still located within the same building, Manchester House on Northgate Street, but has moved a few floors down to occupy the prime

Family-run estate agency Parson has extended its reach by opening an office in Garland Street, Bury St Edmunds, adding to its two existing offices in Diss and Harleston, Norfolk. “We’d been looking at our area coverage and thought opening in Bury St Edmunds would be a step forward, giving our normal high customer service to the people in Bury,” explains owner Kevin Parson, who started his career in Bury over 30 years ago, before leaving to set up Parson estate agency with his wife in 2002.

“We focus very much on customer service, realistic marketing and we sell the lifestyle of a property rather than just the property itself.”

As well as selling for the general residential market in Bury and the surrounding areas, Parson is a holder of a Fine and Country license and already sells prestigious properties from its other branches, a service that will be expanded to the Bury office too. In addition, the company specialises in international sales. “We deal primarily with Florida and Spain, but if someone showed an interest in other parts of the world then we could help them there too,” adds Kevin.

Parson looks set to have a busy year ahead, as Kevin predicts that there will continue to be a strong demand for property in the town. www.parson.ltd.uk

ground-floor office. There is no sign of slowing down for Abbey if Love’s summary of the Bury housing market is anything to go by: “If it’s in Bury, it’s sold before it comes to market.”www.abbeysalesandlettings.co.uk
