MILFORD, DE August 29, 2008 Burris Logistics is adding 24,411 square feet to its facility located at 1110 County Line Road in Lake-land, Florida. Lunch and Learn Program held in Milford, Wednesday, October 7, 2009.

HEALTHY REWARDS: Focus on Better Health...A must for a healthier 2010.

Last spring we had Biometric Screenings in our facilities. Approximately 300 team members participated. The results were quite alarming. 40% of participants are in a medium to high risk for high Blood Pressure. 49% have high to extreme health risks due to Obesity (BMI) 30 or over. 25% of participants used Nicotine 43% resulted medium to extreme Cholesterol levels Burris cares about us enough to insist we help our team members be informed about healthier lifestyles. A Healthy Rewards Committee was formed just a few weeks ago with this task. Our Mission: As a committee suggest, agree to and implement ideas to engage and reward our Team Members participa-tion in healthier lifestyles. These programs will result in their improved health and Burris ability to keep health care costs lowfor the Company as well as the team member. Our goal: to launch these programs corporate-wide result-ing in decreased time lost due to health-related issues, better overall health and improved productivity. The Healthy Rewards Committee Members: Tina Hawkins, Harrington; Peg Maher-Daniels, Elkton; Kate Mularkey Melendez, Rocky Hill; Sophie Rodriguez, Orlando; Lori Metz and Barbara Smith, Milford. All Burris locations will be holding Lunch and Learn Programs, in addi-tion to informing team members about smoking cessation, nutrition and stress management. These programs will focus on a different health topic to keep our team members interested in and motivated about improving their overall health. Milford had their first Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, October 7th. Paula Hess, RN, Cancer Education Specialist from our local BayHealth Medical Center joined us for lunch. It was a win-win! We not only enjoyed good food, we received valuable information from Ms. Hess. She presented cancer informa-tion in a relaxed, understandable manner. Many of us have not been touched by cancer, personally, but many know those that have had or currently are deal-ing with this disease. The best action we can take is openly talk about cancer and make ourselves aware of what we can do to be proactive about prevention. Regular screenings and early detection will be our best defense!

Burris Logistics continues to search out ways to expand on our many services offerings. Our newest services include both Supply Chain Services Network Analysis (SCS) and Transportation Management Services (TMS).

To support these additional programs we have recently brought on Chris Davis as our Manager of Supply Chain Services. Chris will be reporting to and working closely with Freeman Barber, our VP of Supply Chain Development. Chris has responsibility for all the various backroom tactical development and setup of our various software tools including the training of daily operational functions that will be required to support future customers that will be taking advantage of

our TMS offerings. These services include routing, carrier manage-ment, load building/optimization, freight consolidation and continuous move programs.

Chris will also be supporting Freeman with the development of Distribution Center transportation tariffs, future network optimiza-tion projects, presentations and proposals.

Our SCS and TMS will be closely linked to Maria Wittmeyer and her Transportation Team. We believe this forms one of the most complete Logistics Services Teams in our industry. There is a definite need for these services ranging from selection of a specific need to a com-plete turn key solution. To move this initiative forward the Sales Team has identified a target list of small to

mid-size companies that may have a need for some of or all of these services. We have found that many of these types of companies do not have large or fully staffed logistics departments; thus the possible need for our services. In many cases it turns out to be a value-added solu-tion when a company can outsource these functions and possibly realize some economic benefit.

We are very excited to have these new services to market and sell along with our current offerings. It gives us a better opportunity to be successful and enhance the long-term growth of Burris Logistics.

    Hats off to Bob Bush

Bob Bush...who is he, you ask? Hes that quiet gentleman at the Milford Office that is always ready to help, drive, drop off, pick up, fix, or even--shop. The list of how he helps Burris goes on and on. Bob has been with Burris Logistics quite a long time! He started at Harrington in 1967 as a truck driver until 1994. He took a short break and then in 1997 he came back as Jack Burris personal driver and Milford Offices right hand!! He continues on as Mrs. Lillian Burris driver. He has been to all of our facilities and enjoys going to each one...anytime!! I know youve probably seen him! He works with us usually one half day, but often stays on when we have an urgent issue. He is always willing to

help. Bob always has a smile for you and a listening ear, if needed.

He is a wonderful driver and still enjoys being out on the road. He is calm and steady behind the wheel. Never tailgates or rushes, but gets you where you have to be on time (if not early!). Bob has a lovely wife, Virginia. They have been married for over 54 years. Bob has 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Bob likes air shows, truck races and of course, driving!! We dont know what wed do without him here at the Corporate Office. We just appreciate all he does for us and wanted all of you to know a little about him.

Congratulations to the entire Warehouse and Transportation staff in Harrington. They have worked three months without a recordable incident. In fact, they have only one lost time incident since January 2009. This is quite an achievement for us considering the strenu- ous nature of the environ-ment and product mix. We celebrated this initial achieve-ment with a catered lunch. We understand the strain that injuries place not only on our bodies as individuals, but also on our families, friends and livelihood. So, the goal is to go one full year without a single recordable incident and weve finally cleared the first quarter hurdle. Well done and keep after it! Thanks for your help! Larry

Our team of driv-ers and their rigs were looking sharp for the annual Truck Convoy which benefits the Spe-cial Olympics. This year was a banner year because there were more trucks involved than any previ-ous year. There were fire trucks from local volunteer companies, minivans from

delivery companies such as UPS and Fed-X, as well as wreckers, vintage police and ambulance vehicles and other antiques. There was well over 100 separate entries who paid a fee for

the privilege to convoy along a specific route all for the ben-efit of the Special Olym-pics. Con-gratula-tions to Jim Smith, Sam Layton and Phil Toothman

for donating their valuable time and efforts to such a

PRESIDENT OF BuRRIS IT VISITS TOkYO

If you happened to send an email to Ed krupka in June, you may have received an Out-of-Office reply indicating that he was in Tokyo, Japan. One contractor commented that he thought it was a joke; however, Mr. krupkas visit was no laughing matter. The visit came about as a result of a presentation that I gave for Vocollect (a vendor specializing in voice-activation technology), says Mr. krupka. In February of this year, Vocollect requested that Mr. krupka make a presentation at Promat 2009, North Americas premier material handling and logistics event. That series of presentations spawned several magazine articles including one naming Mr. krupka as one of the Rainmakers of 2009, an honor given by DC Velocity magazine to those individuals who made significant contributions to the warehousing and logistics industry. The response to Mr. krupkas presentations at Promat 2009 went so well that Vocollect asked Mr. krupka to make similar presentations to potential customers in Tokyo, Japan. Working through a translator and from a PowerPoint presentation translated into Japanese, Mr. krupka spent a week making presentations and visiting businessmen throughout the area. So did Mr. krupka have a chance to do any sightseeing? His schedule left little to no room for sightseeing. However, he was able to take an afternoon to visit Mt. Fuji before returning home the next day. When asked what he enjoyed most about Tokyo, Mr. krupka said, It is the cleanest city to which I have ever been, the people are all very respectful, and the sushi is fantastic!

Tech Tip: Using the Internet to Save You Money on Travel

Where did you go for vacation this year? If youre like most people in the united States, you probably stayed close to home. Travel is expensive whether for business or pleasure. Fortunately, there are some things we can do to make our travel dollars go farther.

HERE ARE A FEW quICK TIPS: Dont travel. Simple, yet profound. Do you remember the commercial slogan Long distance is the next best thing to being there? Happily, the advent of the Internet has brought us tools even better than long distance. Conference calling, web conferencing, webinars and more allow us to communicate efficiently without the need for travel. Check out these great websites that may eliminate your need to travel: www.FreeConferenceCall.com. Talk with a group of friends or colleagues and pay only long distance charges. www.gotowebinar.com. Show a PowerPoint presentation, share your computer desktop or show documents from your computer screen to up to 1,000 people. www.oovoo.com. A free program that uses technology to connect friends and colleagues using full video and sound. When not traveling is not an option. Okay. I hear you. You want to visit your Aunt Elsie in Oregon and not traveling is not an option. Here are some tips to help you shop for the best prices on airfare, lodging, and more: Airfare: www.expedia.com and www.priceline.com can help you to compare multiple air carriers at one time. However, keep in mind that some airlines (e.g. Southwest) do not list their flights on these sites. Therefore, visit the airlines own websites to discover better deals. This author finds that www.southwest.com typically has the cheapest fares. If Southwest doesnt fly where you want to go, try www.AirTran.com to view their web

specials. Hotels: Visit www.hotels.com or Priceline.com to compare rates of multiple hotels. To save up to 50% off listed prices, use the Name Your Own Price feature on Priceline.com. This feature enables you to stay at better hotels for less money (e.g. compare a 2-star hotels list price of $119 per night to Priceline.coms [Name Your Own Price option] $70 per night for a 4-star hotel in the same area). Kiplinger.com states, you can boost the chances that youll submit the lowest possible winning bid by checking the message boards at www.Biddingfortravel.com, where recent Priceline users note their successful and unsuccessful bids. Condo or house rentals can be a nice alternative

to hotels. Kiplinger.com states vacation rentals generally offer more room and amenities for the same price as hotel rooms. Plus, their kitchens can spare you from having to dine out for every meal. One of the best sites weve found for rental lodgings is at www.HomeAway.com. Last Minute deals. Airlines discount un-booked seats at the last minute by bundling them into packages that dont list the fare reduction separately. So, if youre making last minute travel arrangements, check out www.LastMinute.com. Interested in cruises? Check out last minute options for cruises at www.SkyAuction.com. Burris Elkton was recently recognized by the Board of Directors of the Susquehanna Workforce Network for its innovative on-site employee training and employee recognition programs. Elkton HR Manager Peggy Maher-Daniels said that winning the award was truly an honor. There are quite a number of large employ-ers in our neck of the woods, such as W.L. Gore, The Clorox Company, PFG and many others who we com-pete against daily in recruiting a talented workforce. This award recognition means that we are being looked at as a major player.

Peggy said that she shared the many positive staff development and career ladder best HR practices when she was asked to define the innovative strategies during the nomination process. Our site has an Employee Referral Program whereby any full-time employee who refers an applicant who is hired will be eligible for a $500.00 referral fee. This program has been successful from the vantage point that employee referrals save the company substantial recruiting costs and outstanding performers will not refer someone who does not exem-plify the same high standards of work ethic and work experiences that they possess. Peggy also pointed out to the nomination committee that Burris Elkton strives to hire a diverse workforce especially with regard to their management team. We have four women in key senior management roles here and we also have five supervisors who represent various minority backgrounds. Burris Elkton has launched a site management development program in which two employees were promoted into supervisory positions.

Peggy says that she along with her great HR staff which includes Lauren Weyant and Jenelle Edwards strive to make employees have as much fun as possible with the monthly employee activities. Last month, the Philadelphia Eagles mascot Swoop visited the site during the third annual NFL Kick-Off Lunch. October is the annual Halloween Costume Contest and in December, the ever-popular Santa Saturday for employees and their children will take place at a local hotel. Were hoping that the Phillies win the next few

play-off games, so we can have a Philly Phanatic party, we just keep going with the ideas here. Peggy says that, Burris has a great story to tell as an employer of choice and I plan on doing a lot of talking in the community.

Congratulations to Christine Collins on her appointment to the Planning Committee

for the Mid-Atlantic Region of NEW, Network of Executive Women.

Christine is an Account Executive for the Giant stores in our retail division and resides in Annapolis with her family. Christines outgoing personality and endless energy will definitely be an asset to the committee just as she is to Burris and the Giant stores she serves. The Network of Executive Women addresses the common business interests of women in executive, professional and entrepreneurial roles through the exchange of ideas, information, and experience. Membership is limited to women in management, professionals, and entrepreneurs. The Network has more than 50 corporate sponsors representing the most influential organizations in the CPG/retail industry. With more than two thousand active members representing three hundred companies in the fast-growing consumer products and retail industry, including grocery, chain drug, mass retail, wholesalers, manufacturers, associations and trade media, NEW represents a large network of leaders in the CPG/retail industry and we are pleased that Christine and Burris Retail Logistics can be a part of such a great organization. For more information on NEW you can go to their website at http://www.newonline.org/ and click on the Mid-Atlantic Region in the drop box at the top of the page. Christine, we know you will do well and look forward to the great events we are sure the Planning Committee will put together with your influence.

    Greetings to all,

On Thursday, October 1st, the Lyndhurst facility has gone 800 days since our last lost time injury! On Wednesday, Sep-tember 30th, the facility went 365 days (one year) since our last recordable injury! These are exceptional milestones, and are even more remarkable due to all team members overcoming the challenges that have been brought on by the Nestle recall of cookie dough. Safety is a crucial part of what team members do in their daily tasks. Please let all team members know that everyone is a vital part of this success, and that we must remain vigilant as we head into the heart of our busy season.

Thanks to everyones continued support, safety works for all of us.

Congratulations to Richard McAllister, who was the Star of the Quarter for the 4th Quarter of 2008. Richard joined Burris in 2007 as an order selector. It did not take Richard long to show his quick pick-ing skills. Richard quickly became a force to be reckoned with. He rarely misses time and is eager to learn all he can about the shipping depart-ment. Richards speed, accuracy and all-around good attitude earned him Star of the Quarter.

    Congratulations to Wilbert

Miles for being selected Burris Star of the Quarter for the 1st Quarter of 2009. Mr. Miles was hired part-time in security in 2004. Mr. Miles sat watch as the facility was not in pro-duction on Saturdays, soon he took over a Sunday shift, and then filled in for vacations or whenever needed, and 5 years later he is still working the lonely graveyard shift, and has made his way to full-time. He is very flexible in working whenever needed and always has a cheerful attitude. He says he enjoys work-

    Federalsburg, maryland

ing at Burris and enjoys the people. Congratulations Mr. Miles.

Congratulations to Paul Hol-land for being selected as the Star of the Quarter for the 2nd Quarter of 2009. Mr. Paul is currently the yard jockey and occasionally returns to the road when we need to make a delivery or two. Mr. Paul doesnt let grass grow under his feet; he has spent over 20 years with Burris. Hes done over the road, local, shuttles, yard jockey; you name it and he does it with a smile. Theres no keeping this man down, and retirement doesnt look like its on the horizon anytime soon. Mr. Paul is someone you can always count on to do a good job for you in whatever task he is asked to do. Great Job!

Congratulations to the Star of the Year for 2008. Walt Beulah was selected as the Burris Star of the Year For 2008. Walt was the 3rd Quarter winner for 2008 and was chosen 2008 Star for the Year. There was not much we could add to Walts bio from the last edition, but that he continues to make Burris Logistics proud in whatever task he is asked to do. Walt Makes It Happen, gives WOW Service, practices Cus-tomer, Quality Service and dem-onstrates the I Am Burris attitude in whatever he does. For his efforts, Walt was rewarded with a plaque, a weekend retreat and a cash prize.

    Congratulations to the well-deserved winners.

    It pays to be SAFE..

Federalsburg started off 2009 with a new Safety Rewards Program. This year, employees are encouraged to read and follow the safety bulletin board in the guardhouse. Employees select team members and compete against other teams by acquiring points. Points are rewarded for safe actions, attendance, completing weekly challenges, facility observa-tions or making safety suggestions. Teams can also lose points for having safety violations or lost time incidents. Each week the focus and safety topic changes, and employees are then reviewed on what they have learned. The teams become quite competitive. The team with the most points is chosen as the winner. For every challenge completed, par-ticipants are given an entry for addi-tional gift cards. Each quarter we have about 20 winners. Congratulations to Cecil Wise, Terry Cannon, Sammy Lofland and John Simms. These men were the Safety Challenge winners for the 1st Quarter 2009. Congratulations to Keith Hub-bard, Terris Cannon, and Ed Miller for winning the 2nd Quarter Safety Challenge.

    Get It Right

With the prices of fuel on the rise Atlanta transporta-tion decided as a team to come up with some different ways to save on fuel costs.

THE BurrIS LogISTICS ATLAnTA TrAnSporTATIon TEAM was ecstatic to start an exclusive club called the 7+ club. This exclusive membership was achieved by drivers sustaining a 7+ MPG on their tractors. Through rydesmart technology we were able to track the speed and idle times

and coach our drivers to become more efficient on fuel economy. The top team and single driver with the best fuel economy were given brand new 2008 International Prostars as their new tractors. Atlantas top team recipients were CorEY CAnTEEn AnD norISE CuLpEppEr. The top single driver in Atlanta was WILLIE BArKLEY. These drivers were honored to accept these tractors and excited to get on the road with them. The International Prostars have an Eaton ultra shift transmission for optimum efficiency and are clean idle certified. Our Atlanta drivers are very pleased with the performance and handling of these units. Membership into the 7+ club is a proud honor we bestow on our drivers who Make it Happen!
