Alloway, the birthplace of Robert Burns.

• Robert Burns, a Scottish poet and writer was born on January 25,1795 in Alloway in the family of a farmer. His father was very poor, he had seven children.

• Burns spent his youth in hard work and poverty. He learned at school only a few years, but he read very much.

• But he read a lot. Especially he liked plays and poems by William Shakespeare.

• Burns began writing poetry at the age of 15.

• When he was 27, his first book of poems was published.

• He wrote about the life of common people.

• Robert Burns enjoyed wonderful nature of Scotland, its beautiful green hills and valleys, snowy mountains, grey castles on rocks.

• Jean Armour was the love of all his life.

Buns was a remarkable lyric poet.• Oh, my luve`s like a red, red rose,• That`s newly sprung in June• Oh, my luve`s like a melodie,• That`s sweetly played in tune.• As fair art though, my bonnie lass,so

deep in luve am I:• And I will luve thee still,my dear• Till a` the seas gang dry.

• Burns fell ill and died on the 21-st of July 1797, being 37 years old.

• But the name of Robert Burns is still alive.

• For Scotsmen he is a symbol of national pride.

Burn`s night.

• On the 25-th of January (on his birthday) people of Scotland celebrate Burn`s Night.

• It is celebrated in the form of a supper. People eat national scottish food –haggis, sing folk songs , recite Burn`s poems dance, play bagpipes.
