The Music Contest on January 26th is a great

opportunity to provide youth with a venue for personal expression and creativity. Youth need opportunities to express themselves in a variety of ways. This is an encouraging reminder to get those registration forms in by the deadline, January 8

th at 7:00 p.m.

Participating in activities that involve music, drama, creative writing, public speaking and visual arts aren’t just ways for youth to have fun. What’s important about the arts is that they help youth develop knowledge and skills they’ll be able to use all through life.

These kinds of opportunities help develop confidence in their ability to express themselves in front of others. And that can make it easier for them to form strong relationships and assume leadership roles.

Why is the 4-H Arts and Communication Program so popular?

4-H arts and communication projects help prepare youth for their futures (EX: public speaking). The 4-H Music Contest and Cultural Arts Festival provide opportunities to engage in creative activity within the 4-H club context, that are not otherwise provided.

Youth enjoy the opportunity to perform and display their work in public. The initial incentive may be the ribbon or prize money but most youth grow to enjoy the recognition of their talents and constructive feedback regarding how to continue to improve.

Clubs and friend groups often participate together in arts and communication projects that build and reinforce friendships and club cohesion.

NOVEMBER PROJECT MEETING: At the November 4-H Cloverbud project meeting, members made homemade bean bag socks using recycled mismatched socks and dried beans. They could also personalize their new creation using fabric markers. Cloverbud members also were encouraged to make up their own game using their new bean bag socks. This activity encourages recycling, creativity, and recreation. 4-H Connection: One part of a successful 4-H program is recreation. Young people want to have fun and be active. This activity encourages them to do both. Once their beanbags are made, they can create a game to play with other 4-Hers at a club meeting or gathering. UPCOMING CLOVERBUD MEETINGS: Chocolate Cake in Mug Mix with Lauri Nelson, McKenzie Johnson, and Grace Lahners on:

Monday, December 11: Siren Countywide Cloverbud Meeting, 6pm, Gov’t Center

Tuesday, December 12: Grantsburg Countywide Cloverbud Meeting, 6pm, Grantsburg Library.

You may attend either meeting or do December’s project at home. INVESTIGATE the Cloverbud project at http://fyi.uwex.edu/wi4hcloverbuds/.

Danbury during Christmas at the Forts was discussed. Members discussed some essentials of having another bake sale including if it were indoors or outdoors, if tables were available and most importantly if we had enough people to make goodies and staff the sale. A motion was made and seconded that we would agree to have the bake sale only if we could find at least six families to contribute to the bake sale. Grace Lahners called Nancy Mindell to check about the details of the location of the sale and if tables were available. She had to leave a message. [Editor’s Note: We were successful in finding enough families to help so the bake sale will take place!] Motion was made to adjourn the meeting and start on the education piece of the meeting. Education: Jr. Leaders partnered up to provide suggestions for improving the “exhibitability” of lots listed in the fair book. The hope is to increase the number of ways youth can enter 4-H projects beyond making a poster to demonstrate growth. Next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, December 10th at 1:00 p.m. in Room 165 of the Burnett County Government Center. Many of our members received awards and were awarded trips. It was a great night! - Nicholas Webster
