Leather Hat

This hat features two national symbols, the green peafowl, called the duang, and the chinthe, a leogryph found predominately at temples and pagodas. The duang is associated wtih the Konbaung monarchy and the anti-colonial nationalist movements while use of the chinthe increased after 1988 with the rise of the military government.
