Chamber’s First CEO Forecast a Big SuccessOver 150 chamber members and community leaders

enjoyed the organization’s fi rst ever “CEO Forecast” at the Fall Quarterly Meeting on October 15, 2015.

Highlight of the meeting was a conversation with two local CEO’s moderated by Justin Bond, the City of Burleson Director of Development. Bruce Basden with Basden Steel Industries and Bill Mecke with KWS Manufacturing shared their thoughts on a series of di-verse topics. Both companies are industry and employ-ment leaders in our city.

When Bill Mecke purchased KWS Manufacturing thirteen years ago, the company employed 34 people. Today, 150 work at KWS to manufacture screw convey-or equipment that is sold all over the world. The compa-ny has experienced 500% growth in the last ten years. Thirty-four years ago, Bruce Basden started Basden Steel Industries, fi nding a niche that incorporated both steel fabrication and construction in a single turnkey solution. Today, that model is used by most of the Indus-try. Basden Steel is also a signifi cant employer, with 380 employees working in Burleson, Texas and Oklahoma.

One of the greatest challenges facing both men is attracting and retaining skilled labor, which can com-mand salaries that are highly competitive. However, Burleson’s proximity to a Tarrant County labor pool is a plus for Burleson employers. Both men agreed that doing business in Burleson and with the City of Burle-son is one of their greatest assets. They follow industry trends through professional source models and from ob-serving sales and expenses in their own industry.

Members also heard an Economic Update from Jus-tin Bond, who talked about new businesses coming to Burleson, our increasing tax revenue, and the contin-ued interest in Burleson as a place to do business. Cur-rently, Burleson has a vacancy rate of 2%, the lowest in the metroplex. Our economic development team contin-ues to work with inquires for business, industrial and retail interested in moving to the city of Burleson. With 16,000 acres developed, Burleson has an additional 38,000 in the EJT – and available land is another rea-son businesses are moving to Burleson.

The meeting was sponsored by Star Bank of Texas. Affi liate Sponsors were ER at Burleson and the City of Burleson. The meeting was held at Pathway Church and catered by On the Border.

Justin Bond, City of Burleson moderates a discussion with Bruce Basden and Bill Mecke.

BACC Members and community leaders listen attentively at the CEO Forecast.
