bacterial blight and phenotyping SNP discovery, design trial using BMS, phenotyping trials

established

3.1.3. Markers for drought tolerance,Striga resistance and seed size used in MARS in Burkina

Faso

seed multiplication of the MAGIC and MARS lines, Drought phenotyping of MAGIC lines,

design trial using BMS, phenotyping trials established

3.1.4. Management and sharing of pedigree, genotyping and phenotyping datasets

Organized BMS trainings for technicians and provide tablets for data collection; Assemble data

using BMS tools and organize data sharing

Activity 3.2: Breeding pipeline 3.2.1. drought tolerant (DT) breeding lines developed using MARS

Prepare protocol for establishing drought phenotyping of MAGIC lines, design

trial using BMS, phenotyping trials established with 30 breeding lines

3.2.2 Aphids, striga, and bacterial blight breeding MABC lines phenotyping

Prepare protocol for establishing Aphids, Striga, and bacterial blight breeding

MABC lines, design trial using BMS, phenotyping trials established with 30

breeding lines

3.2.3. At least 10 low-P tolerant breeding lines developed using MARS

Prepare protocol for establishing low-P tolerant breeding lines, design trial using

BMS, phenotyping trials established with 30 breeding lines

Page 8: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

Activity 3.3: Testing for release

3.3.1 multi-location evaluation of breeding lines with good performance (arising

from 2000 populations with 25% annual increase)

• select 25 breeding lines from the evaluation

• identify the appropriate sites (soil science) and locations

3.3.2 Conduct FPVS trials

• identify best variety for demos, identify demos' fields, select 200 participants

for the demos

• At least 100 ladies involved

• 10 locations and 6 sites per location

Objective 6: Developing Sustainable and Impact-Oriented

Legume Seed Systems for Smallholders in Sub-Saharan

Africa and South Asia

Page 10: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

Activity 6.1. Establish Multi-Stakeholders Platforms (across legumes if

possible) 6.1.1: Multi stakeholders platforms established in participating countries

• Meet the potential members of the platform,

• organize a workshop to discuss about the platform objectives,

• establish one Multi stakeholders platform for the production and delivery of

cowpea and groundnut seed in target communities.,

• start major activities in 04 platforms

Page 11: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

6.1.2: Platform members trained in seed production and business management in each

participating country (trainees disaggregated by gender, category and type of training) per year

and target crop

Development strategies to access various seed grades access ; Identify spcific training topics

for each stakeholders members of the platform, organize training section for each topic taking

into account gender, categories and type of training.

Activity 6.2. Sustainable Production and Delivery of Various Seed Classes 6.2.1: Basic seed produced

Engage 5 -6 seed companies , 5 NGOs, and others projects donor funded projects to facilitate

production of cowpea seeds in Burkina Faso, get breeder seed from the breeding unit, identify

field for basic seed production, identify well-trained seed growers, produce 2 tones of breeder

and 20 tones of cowpea basic seeds

6.2.2: Certified and quality declared/truthfully-labeled seed produced

Engage seed companies , NGOs, and others projects donor funded projects to facilitate

production of cowpea certified and quality declared seeds.

Page 12: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

Activity 6.3. Innovative and Targeted Seed Marketing

6.3.1: WCA-GN: 5%,CP: 5% small packs

Engage seed companies and marketers to start packaging 5% of seed produced into small packs for sale

6.3.2: Seed companies ; farmer organizations ; public seed enterprise ; individual entrepreneurs

engaged seed production and marketing

Facilitate marketing of at least 60 tons of seed in diverse packages/marketed to targeted categories of

farmers (women, youth and small scale farmers), collaborate with 3 seed companies, 10 farmer

organizations, for cowpea marketing targeting different clients

Page 13: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

Activity 6.4. Popularize New Varieties

6.4.1: Copies of seed production, postharvest, seed business management guides produced

and shared with partners annually in all participating countries for each crop

Visit farmer seed store,

visit the national seed service,

information on quantities and qualities of seed produced,

document the data,

train or share examples on seed business management systems,

and train on good practices on seed production

6.4.2: Demonstrations for each crop established each year in all participating countries

Identify demonstration sites, identify varieties involved in the demos, establish the

demonstration field

6.4.3: Field days (50% female participants) held annually for each crop in all participating

countries.

Organize 3 field days in target communities (number of participants disaggregated by

gender)

6.4.4: Electronic (TV, radio, and SMS) programs per crop and print media disseminated

annually in each country.

Record video of field days and fairs, invite media to participate, make some interviews with

stakeholders

Page 14: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

6.4.5: Agri/seed fairs/exhibition /shows (50% female participation) organized

per year and per country

• Organize a least two fairs per year

Page 15: Burkina Faso Cowpea Objective 1,3 and 6 workplan TL III Annual meet

Activity 6.5. Strengthen Multi-Legume Impact-Oriented Seed Systems (coordination)

areas of cross crop innovative and gender-considerate marketing seed production in collaboration with

ISSD in respective target countries.

• Identify trainers and topics • Seed producers, • Organize training

6.5.2: Useful seed systems lessons documented and shared with wider audience (policy makers and

development partners, e.g., governments, AGRA, Feed the Future, and seed sector actors/associations).

• Identify resource person, • collect and document seed systems lessons and shared with wider audience (policy makers

and development partners, • exchange between platforms for lessons learning

6.5.3: Business model for accessing appropriate legume smallholders farm machinery for alleviating

drudgery designed and deployed in Burkina Faso.

Identify with farmers in the platforms the farm machinery for alleviating drudgery designed and deployed (planting, harvesting, processing etc.) Get access machineries to farmers
