Dburge Quartz visits the Empire State College MAT Science Center online in Second Life

Dburge Quartz visits the Areva Nuclear Power Plant to explore potential inquiry-based lesson ideas for Environmental Science (local course) students to explore

There is a tour at the facility where you sit on a vehicle and it takes you around the Power Plant. This would be a great alternative to an actual Power Plant in terms of cost for students. Additionally, a question sheet could be developed to guide students exploring this location.

Dburge takes off on the first part of the tour in the touring vehicle (this vehicle can move through walls in the facility)

Dburge outside of the containment dome. The tour takes about a minute and a half.

Dburge near the reactor. No actual radiation occurred.

Dburge next to the steam driven electrical generators. Students may have to take the tour a few times to take in all the sights as the vehicle moves rather quickly. I could easily use this as a lesson surrounding nuclear power generation.

This is a tour of the proton accelerator at the NOAA island. There is a narrative as you take the tour. Many Physics concepts here.

Alternative energy at the Department of Energy Island. Great way to introduce students the basic structure of energy alternatives in an energy and pollution unit.
