The above picture contains some of the objects that we the editorial team connect with spirituality.

HI EVERYONE and welcome to Buoy, the Spirituality edition. The original motivation forthis edition of Buoy was the fact that in mental health circles some people dismiss the

spiritual as a mental aberration, so we decided to highlight the subject as a way of combattingthis prejudice. Beyond this noble reason for choosing this theme, spirituality is a great themebecause of the diversity of opinions that people have about it.

TAKE FOR EXAMPLE OUR OPINIONS ON SPIRITUALITY: Ha ha ha ha (wild laughter); that it is differenttypes of love; it is a tool for creating understanding between people; a punk sensibility — Godsave the Queen, a fascist regime; mystery, real magic, relationship with God, a subject to beavoided; I don’t know. The contributions we did receive for the Journal you are now readingwere varied and wide. This pleased us because we want Buoy to be a place where people feelfree to express themselves. That we got so many outlooks in a diversity of forms makes for agreat journal and great reading and viewing, as I am sure you will agree. Enjoy.

For the Love of itThere are so many things that I love in this world,

that I appreciate like the local store I would go if I could.

The neatly stacked shelves all in several rows, they certainly look good, as good as stage shows.

Some places that I have been to just take my breath away,oh, what a sight to see life and that's the way it will stay.

Beautiful flowers outside along the walkway I see, never a dull moment it leaves you filled with glee.

Every time I think of spring and summer I feel loved, the sun shines so brightly that makes me feel moved.

Especially in the spring time I love the smell of the parks,You see couples holding hands and lovingly creating sparks.

But today I will just go for a stroll and enjoy it totally, when the feeling of love is in the air there is no need for a rally.

We have the idea of how love should be nice and smooth, today you have to take the time to stop and smell the roses, my sweet tooth.

Inner LightI’m in my late thirties now,Thirty-seven to be exact,And I tryto know where I’m at.

I’ve been through many spins, and many wins,But there’s stillsomething on my mind.

Why can’t I find,What’s gotten me blindis it just in the windOr should I try to findmy own peace of mindand learn from my mistakesonce again.

Life is too shortto resortto negativethinkingLet’s look for solutionsand make resolutionsto improveour way of life.

Love helps all foolsthat we all areif we’d onlykeep it in our heart.

Wherever you arein your life so farjust remember this:

Love of selfis not just for those who’ve been blessedit’s for all of mankindFor if we truly love ourselvesWe can truly help othersand we ourselves pass the testThe test is this:We can truly find blissif we are guided by our inner lightThe inner light is the heartand soulof each personAnd if you find your lightyou’ll feel brightinside.

“I insist the spiritexists!!”

Above all, the physical bodyis temporary!

But, the spirit lives onpermanently!!

There’s no limit on the life ofthe spirit!!

Being on abstract, mystical, mythicalmysterious, undefined, refined

entity

The spirits exists, and remains,an ethereal, continuous , diaphanous

plane, thus - for eternity!!

In a dream-like statewe can contemplate

in the depth of our subconsciousmind

another world of fantasysurreality - cosmology, astronomy,

Etc. - All in one dream!!making us believe, hope and pray,

this imaginary display convinces usthat the world we know, as the stars glow -

is not what it seems!

Spirituality JUDY MINDERMAN

What does spirituality meanto me? Perhaps it might be

best to tell you a little aboutmyself, and how I came to myspiritual beliefs. My name is JudyMinderman, I am 51 years of age,and I have settled many of thesedivine questions. I was born and

raised Catholic and our familywent to church every Sunday. Wewere baptized and I practiced thisfaith-based belief for quite sometime. Being a curious personthough, I came to learn andunderstand many different kindsof religious ideas and spiritualvalues. These personal truthscame to me from my reading ofworks by authors such as EckhartTolle and Wayne Dyer. I learnedthat perhaps the most importantspiritual truth is in accepting thatwe all have our own unique way ofunderstanding these weightyissues.

WHAT I BELIEVEThat said, in my system of faithGod is Love and Light and my faithdoes not require I participate in anorganized religion. Within theseideas and values I also enjoy andaccept reincarnation as a part ofmy faith. I also think it isimportant that we are kind, compassionate, caring andunderstanding.

NEW AGE?Some may say that my ideals areNew Age, and perhaps that is so,but I only know that I am a very, very spiritual person. I believe inauras, chakras, and practicemeditation as I find it very helpfulin bringing me to a place of peaceand tranquility. In closing, I thankyou for taking the time to readabout my thoughts on the matterof spirituality, God bless, and mayLove and Light shine the way foryou in peace.

“In closing…Godbless, and may Loveand Light shine the

way for you inpeace.”

“Being a curious personthough, I came to learn

and understand manydifferent kinds of

religious ideas andspiritual values.”

On Wings of EaglesLight dancing in shadows

Across the room.

I used to live my life in gloom.

But now, the Sun dances

Sweet melodies at noon.

Now too, I play in the noonday fun.

I used to exist in burrows.

In burrows I was so at home.

I knew terrors few have ever known

And I was to be found always alone.

Alone I fought an invisible fight

Until you prayed and my sorrows,

My terrors, took flight.

And today, this morning,

I soared like the wings of Eagles.

Nevermore need of fright.

The demons are gone!

The demons are gone!!

Total and complete deliverance I have.

You have freed me from my heinous blight.

My purest innocence is now my just delight.

God has blessed the night indeed!

The Dragons have taken flight.

No longer Dark is my night.

I’ve been to the cross roadsI’ve been to the cross on top of the mountainI’ve been star crossedI’ve tried to be the bossIt’s more than snow blindin’ More than a foggy soggy day in spring with a fever.

Driver won’t you take me home?Going to the desert,Heaven on earth.God only knows my future.God only knows my time.

With a poem, a song or two, A pen and, A piece of paperThat pay no dollars wage. What I read is something more than I can ever imagine writing,When you don’t understand what you read, you’ve got company. It throws me ten feet out of my seat.

I’m going down hill with no money to be funny about.Energy faded as if it’s been to the blade for blood.

I go to bed wake up dead,Find I’ve been drowning all nite,Have to climb out of the demon den,Take two to four steps for every human step.Mount Kilimanjaro you are 19,314 feet above sea level.Hear I come Tanzania in East Africa.

No anticipation of this day.Something higher has given me this fire orI’d retire to my mire. The sofa is a throw back for a lost mission,Condition critical, makes one cynicalReady to go clinical,Blind eyes for being political.

I’ve got to carry my cross beyond my comfort zone.Bare my bones to the lost souls grasping at straws.I smile, make puns, and joke around, playing the clownBefore we get too serious and die another death, looking out for our breath.

Can’t forget the heart of it all I express in my art

I’ve been to the cross roadsI’ve been to the cross on top of the mountain

I’ve been star crossedI’ve tried to be the bossIt’s more than snow blindin’ More than a foggy soggy day in spring with a fever.

The Lost ChildLike a lost and hurt childI walk towards you lord

I ask for forgivenessI ask you to show, to guide me

Along my journey of life

Please god help meTo see the light

Help me to believe in youTo have faith in thee

In the past, life has notBeen a kind one

The struggles and hardships have come and gone.

My only wish is that, it will become easierAlong the way

As I look before me,The path of life

Is stretched out where I can seeWith you strength and guidance

Toward my own true destination and may thereBe light at the end of the road.

question que plusieurs se posent surJésus.

Lilly LooShe’s green

Like the beer bottle she swigged from Spittle dripping From the corner of her frown Her short hair Tied in knots A face tattooed With unconsciousness While her heart cries Molest me not One more time

Pushed out To find her way home alone Into the dark Into the hearts of men Who prey upon her selfishly For they have no courage To bravely protect her From her self loathing And the bitching hens of haughtiness Who mock her tirelessly Without ever knowing Her true story

The amber moral shade Rigidly tied Excursions into compassion By way of spiritualism Are but a rational veneer to explain How we judge The steps of her audition As if she staged her angst For our benign platitudes

So she dances alone In the night filled city streets Chancing danger frivolously Because it is all she can do While waving goodbye

Tears of despair,loneliness, and hungerTears of painon my window panes;stains of bloodfrom former clientele;

Of despair, loneliness, and anger and tears.I feel your presence still; But there is never a blue light.Shining in your eyes.

And the sun shone uponYour golden brown hair,As you walked by.

I looked up at the summer skyLike a dagger sharpAnd right through my heartI heard your cries throughThe morning light.

A sign of death reachedMy secret heart.And I fell down oh my knees;And cried tears of relief,That the good Lord was shining;

Through the emptiness,Of blue clouds,And I blew through my breath,To your sold out heart;Of pain and misery that night

Behind the Walls of the PinelInstitute for the Criminally InsaneHOWARD FREED

The best example of psychiatrist F’sfailure to understand a coherent

and simple truth and deem it theopposite, occurred some while earlierwhen I was detained at Rivière desPrairies awaiting trial on some chargeor other. I asked to see him. I hadheard that a fellow prisoner was indanger of being transferred to nearbyPinel. I intended to speak on his behalf. While waiting for the guard who wouldescort me to psychiatrist F’s office, Iwanted to pray. Instead, I spent fifteenminutes looking for and smoking a tare.I should have done a D. and prayed first.By doing a D’ I am referring to an oldgirlfriend D who always did the rightthing when it should be done.

In addition, she always knew what tosay and do on all occasions, especially, but not exclusively, in social ones. Shewas always on the right side of everyissue. She was always loyal to andseldom contradicted the man she waswith, and was always true to herself. How she juggled these five balls I donot know but she did.

THE VIOLENT TAKE IT BY FORCEWhen the hour came however, and theguard escorted me to Psychiatrist F’soffice I asked for two minutes alone. Inow wanted to pray. The guard refusedsaying that the psychiatrist F wasleaving within minutes. This was anoutright lie as I found out later; he wasto be in the entire afternoon. The guardescorted me none too gently to theoffice and practically threw into a chair.I protested loudly at this treatment asthe guard left the office. “You’reaggressive.” Psychiatrist F said. “I’mnot aggressive! He’s aggressive! I’mdefensive.” I passionately replied. ThenI thought ‘being aggressive’ isn’t alwaysbad. Psychiatrists and others in the‘helping professions’ negativelycharacterize aggressive behaviours intheir patients. But the police, hockeyplayers, politicians, business men arepraised for being aggressive. Bikers,Mafiosi, street gang members, skinheads and the like when not exactlypraised for their aggressive behaviourare at least respected for it. Talk abouthypocrisy. What I said to psychiatristF then was with respect to the guard, myself, aggression in general butbrought to another level: I quoted aNew Testament verse; “And the time ofJohn the Baptist until now, the kingdomof heaven suffereth violence, and theviolent take it by force.” Psychiatrist Fwas not aware I was quoting scripture, nor its relevance to aggression. He didnot know what I was talking about. Hetherefore chalked my remarks up todisorganized thoughts. (NOTE: Thepreceding text is an excerpt from a novella.)

“Psychiatrist F…did notknow what I was talking

about…he thereforechalked my remarks up

to disorganizedthoughts.”

BURNT ONIONAn onion who is sacrificed for ourpleasure should at least be “finelychopped”. Then, perhaps, “gentlysautéed” The greatest sacrilege is tolet onion go anywhere beyondgently browned, for once burned,an onion is no longer a pretty sightand like an old love must bediscarded.

CONSUMPTIONThe final pleasure of the onioncomes during its consumption forit melds well with other foods andin that way is a very social andfriendly soul. Artists have oftenused the onion as a subject in theirstill lifes and I can only say that theonion definitely deserves thiscompliment.

Onions are beautiful bulbousart objects. They recline

leisurely on their rotund bases likeprimitive fertility goddesses. Theyare like earth mothers whosewombs are ripe with the promise offruit, and they do not disappoint.

A SECRET LIFEAn onion's secret life is a well keptsecret for who would think thatunderneath its unassuming brownwrap lies such a juicy, sweet, pungent surprise.

A RITUAL OF TEARSTo learn this secret one must gothrough a cleansing ritual of tears.Few are they who have not weptwhile deflowering an onion.

THE RELEASING AROMASOh! It is so difficult not to shedhuge tears as the onion releases itsaromas and juices to the knife. One must move the scalpel gentlyfor to merely “chop” an onion isinhuman.

Hydroponicthere is no earththere is no skybut I'm never dry

I laughI singI'm everythingIt was a lie

love from rocksand ugly socksa hand me downfloppy bra clown

looking goodlike a pizza made from woodclenched teeth smilelike a hungry crocodile

I'm a precision nose pickeryou'll never catch meI'm wet and slipperyfloating on a lonely sea

unless that's what you live forto stomp out sweetnessthat is your coreto be mean with neatness

I have rootsgrowing in waterI have fruitsI'm not your daughter

I laughI singI have love and friendshipand that's everything
