need to advance, the Master’s in Statistical Practice at Boston
University can deliver the knowledge and real-world understanding
employers demand.
The MS in Statistical Practice (MSSP) is an eight-course program
that can be completed in one year. It’s focused, practical and
ideal for students who plan to launch immediately into elds in
industry, government, nonprots and other highly collaborative
environments—here in Boston or anywhere else.

The Master’s in Statistical Practice
program is designed to lay a foundation
in statistical methods and applications
for individuals with backgroundsin elds like biology, psychology,
economics, management and
engineering whose jobs demand
a more extensive level of statistics
training than they may have received
as undergraduates.
Mathematics Boot CampIf you’re admitted, you’ll have the
opportunity to attend a math “boot
camp” in the weeks before the program
begins to review and extend your
mathematical knowledge. This includes
reviewing relevant aspects of Calculus
I & II and basic programming, as well
as an introduction to key topics from
multivariable calculus to linear algebra.
Core coursesIn the program’s core courses, you’ll
master the fundamentals of statistical
methods and analysis, includingprobability, mathematical statistics
and their relation to statistical methods
including linear models and time series.

a two-semester elective sequence
from either standard statistics offerings
or from complementary disciplines.

PracticumAll MSSP students are required to
take a two-semester practicum courseto develop the soft skills required for
doing statistics in practice. During the
practicum, you’ll perform statistical
consulting for University clients and
complete modules on speaking,
writing, software and programming,
and data analysis.
