Celebrating Easter: Yesterday both Primary and Secondary students gathered to prepare for the high point in the Christian calendar as we move into those days of commemoration and celebration of the Life Death and Resurrection of our Brother, Friend and Saviour Jesus Christ. Years 7 – 12 entered into a ceremony of Reconciliation with a strong linking to those people in many different places being supported by our Project Compassion donations. We hope to reach $10,000, if we can. After the Reconciliation students who wished to take the opportunity of private Reconciliation did so thanks to the opportunity given by Fr Tony Densley and Fr James Valledares. Dear Parents,

Sports Day 2016 We give thanks to God for a picture perfect Sunday On Monday night I spent time reviewing our beautiful 2016 Sports Day through the lens of three cameras and hundreds of shots taken by staff members, Sr. Jo Armour, Keith Cockerill and Parent, Mr Duing Huynh. What you see in all of these is the immense enjoyment of the day from all our students, Reception to Year 12, whether in the intense concentration of team players in the egg and spoon race, the determined struggle in the tug of war final between Gold and Red teams; or the magnificent last few metres from fast moving athletes. What seemed to me the most fiercely contested race was between the Dads in the father – daughter race, both Primary and Secondary! You will see some of these shots in today’s coverage.

Congratulations to Columba from all of us on winning the Guerin House Shield for the second year. Congratulations to Guzman on taking off the Marching Cup. From all of us special thanks goes to Staff member David Curran who trains our marching squads and who did a great job in a short time for students to reach their very acceptable standard. Congratulations to the Siena team on winning both the Discipline and the Spirit Cup. Well done to Aquinas on their Primary Ball Games Trophy. All the results for individuals and team events are listed in today’s Bulletin.

There are teams of people and individuals to whom we record our thanks: To the Health and PE Staff, to Maria Lappas P&F President and to Kathryn Hudson School Liaison “hands on”, to all the College Staff who give so much support for this event, to so many of you parents who helped in a myriad of ways. We all enjoyed our new temporary venue on the beautiful oval at Immanuel. Special thanks to Principal Kevin Richardson and grounds and sports staff. St Dominic’s Priory College

On the Sunday the 20th of March the whole school participated in Sports Day. There were lots of activities and everyone had a lot of fun. The Year 6 class experienced marching for the first time. The Aquinas team were glad that Aquinas came first in the primary events, even though every

team tried their best and put in lots of effort. The Reception, Year 1s and Year 2s did a good job doing their ‘Uptown Funk’ dance. Some students participated in 100m, 200m, 400m and relays. The Year 5 and Year 6 class did 6 different types of ball games including corner spry, rescue relay, St Patrick’s relay, Olympic relay, egg and spoon race and the Olympic Torch spoke relay. - Alexia, Sarita and Angelina

YEAR 6

St. Patrick’s Day in the Primary School

Primary Newsfrom Ms. Cate O’Leary, Primary School Coordinator

On the 18th of March everyone had the choice of wearing something green for St Patrick’s Day. There were green socks, green shorts, green ribbons, green t-shirts and more. On Friday we were lucky to catch up with our buddies and do Saint Patrick’s day activities like bungie jumping potatoes. Everyone donated $2 to Caritas and we had the choice of getting a green jelly with a lolly snake. Over all Saint Patrick’s day was very enjoyable and we can’t wait for our next event which will probably be Gala Day. Layla and Tammy, Year 6

Harmony Day in Year 3The Year 3 class was a sea of orange on Monday as we celebrated Harmony Day and learnt about different cultures. A huge thank you to Bronwyn Smith,

Andrea Burvill and Emma Kretschmer who imparted their cultural knowledge on us and taught us things like how to make a sand mandala, an Aboriginal rhyme and the names of Hungarian farm animals. We had lots of fun and learnt more about the wonderful people and cultures that make Australia so unique.

Harmony day is about connecting with each other – VictoriaI learnt that on the Aboriginal flag, the yellow bit is for the sun – JessicaI learnt how to say lots of animal names in Hungarian, like cica macska for cat – AlannahThe Italian Easter biscuit (Cuddure) was fun to make and I ate it while waiting to be picked up! - Rosie

A rolling stone gathers no moss, and we have certainly been very busy in the Primary School. Our Sports

Day was extremely successful and we thank all the parents and teachers for their help and support.

A reminder that Thursday is Bread Roll Day.

We thank the Year 6s for leading a thoughtful and moving Easter Liturgy. May you all have a Happy and Holy Easter.

The St Dominic’s school community were once again blessed with a beautiful day and our Sports Day on Sunday was a winner

in all aspects. The weather was ideal, the athletes did themselves proud, participants and supporters displayed commendable sportsmanship, and the huge army of volunteers once again put up a stellar performance.Catering for the day ran smoothly thanks to the tremendous effort of the convenors, who provided sustenance for the community with the assistance of many enthusiastic helpers. Thank you to all who donated their time to help out on stalls on Sunday and in the days and hours prior to the big day. Well done to those who came early to set up, stayed late to clean up, or who spent hours slaving over a hot BBQ or at the kitchen sink! Your time, industry and team spirit made all the difference. To the convenors of our stalls, we extend our special thanks for donating hours of your time on the day, and in many instances, many hours in the lead-up to the event. Without your sterling efforts the school community would have gone hungry and thirsty! Each year we put aside some time to reflect on the previous year, in a bid to consider any worthwhile enhancements that might result in the event being just that little bit better, but most of all to ensure that it continues to be an enjoyable time for all. A great deal of thought and effort is contributed by many parents and staff and we would welcome any new feedback either by contacting us direct or by your attendance at the next P&F Meeting.

• Loretta Lighezzolo from the office for assisting with the update and collation of all the volunteers and for also spending her entire day helping out in the kitchen area and wherever else we asked her to go.

• Mark Hawkins, John Drousas, Scott Griffin, Kathryn Hudson and Mario Lappas for assisting with the transporting and unloading of goods from the venue to the school at the end of the day.

• Rick Pedler for organising the use of a Cool Room

• Blackfriars Priory School for the use of their trailer.

• Kevin Richardson, Kaye Harris, Grant Cirillo and the events / grounds staff at Immanuel College for being so accommodating and facilitating our change of venue.

We extend a very special mention & a huge thank you to the following:

St Dominic’s Priory College

On behalf of the P&F, we would like to extend our gratitude of

thanks to the fantastic office staff, Loretta, Danielle, Lina, Helen and Noreen for help with bulletin notices, the raffle, sorting messages, collating the rosters, and putting up with our many phone calls and interruptions: To Gavin & Michael, the school’s behind-the-scenes workers, thank you for your help in packing & unpacking the big trailer with all the many items required for the day.

We would also like to acknowledge Sr. Jillian and Sr. Jo for all their support, along with all the Sports Department staff for organising a very successful day.

An extra special mention goes to Kathryn Hudson, who spent many hours gathering our provisions together in preparation for the big day, and has the mammoth task of sorting through what has been returned. Kathryn defused countless potential emergencies on the day and took copious notes on how to do things better next year.

Huge Thanks to the BBQ A-TeamWhat a fantastic day we had on Sunday but of course this success would not be possible without the amazing support we receive from the dedicated parents and helpers who gave us their valuable time on the day. There are too many to mention in person, but please accept our most sincere gratitude for your time and effort – you are all superstars! We tried to serve everyone as fast as physically possible, and can only apologise for any delays experienced. We are always looking for new ways to improve the process so any feedback would be appreciated.

Many thanks once again Scott Griffin, Mark Hawkins

& Scott Coombe

Fruit Salad StallThe popularity of the fresh fruit and yoghurt was evident again this year as demonstrated by the early sell out! As always we must acknowledge and thank the generous donation of the entire fruit supply by the Schinella Family of Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers, Prospect.

Thank you so much to the parents who assisted on the day.

Emma Caldwell

Morning Tea & Scones ThanksThe Morning Tea and Scones Stall got off to a flying start on Sunday thanks to a dedicated band of helpers who donated their time to prepare and serve tea and scones with a smile! Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to all the volunteers who shared the load and stayed calm during those very busy periods. Thanks also to all those who came in very early and to everybody who helped during the afternoon with the big clean up. Special thanks go to Kathryn Hudson, who was once again invaluable in managing all our preparations and working her fingers to the bone on the day; without her we would be at a loss.

Enza Belperio & Tina Grasso

Ice-creams & Drinks Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the sales of ice-creams and drinks this year. A special thank you to Irene Drousas, Richard Moriarty and to all the helpers who often stayed beyond their time allocated to ensure we were all well hydrated on this sunny day.

MemorabiliaA huge thank you to Kate Haskey and Deirdre Kelley, who as first time convenors, steadfastly manned

the stall for most of the day and to their merry band of helpers who demonstrated great marketing skills.Cake Stall Thank you to all the parents, students & relatives for your kind donations of cakes, biscuits and tempting treats. Once again, everyone went to a great deal of effort in making sure the baked goods were delicious. Over the past few years we have seen a large number of cupcakes, biscuits and cakes so professionally presented, and this year was no exception.

A big thank you is also extended to our cake stall volunteers who took time away from their families to help sell the delicious produce. To everyone involved we extend our thanks.

Kate Jensen & Skye Newton

Counting HouseWe extend a special thanks to Bob Stoddart for running a very smooth counting house this year. Your expertise was fantastic, your temperament unflappable, and your speed and accuracy truly impressive.

Volunteer Raffle WinnersCongratulations to Tina Grasso, who ably assisted on the Morning Tea Stall.

Transportation, Set-Up & Clean-Up CrewWe are very grateful to all who transported, dragged, dropped, packed, sorted, moved, lifted, shifted or gave of any of their time to help get Sports Day up & running both prior and on the day. For those still half asleep at 7.30am Sunday morning, we could not have done it without you to help set up the stalls and oval. To those with weary feet, and tired arms and legs at the end of the day your help was so much appreciated to get everything back the way it was, and all the gear back to school. Well done to all of you.

PS: Congratulations to Columba for a well-deserved win!

“Once landing in KI our first destination was Pennigton Bay, whether it was the aesthetics or shock, we were all mesmerized by what we saw – a pollution free, hardly impacted environment with the highlighted crystal blue water which was worth many photo opportunities.” - Sophie Capoccia

“My highlight of kangaroo island was going to Little Sahara. Getting chased by wasps and climbing steep sand dunes.”

Year 11 French Excursion to SA Art GalleryLast Friday the Year 11 French c lass attended a guided tour of some of the French art-works displayed at the SA Art Gallery. For some girls it was their first visit to this wonderful gallery. The tour was conducted in French by volunteer gallery guide, Madame Helga Linnert. The girls admired works by such artists as Claude Lorrain, Camille Pissarro and Rodin and were instructed on composition and style. They will now research a French artist and a work of art of their choice and present their findings in an oral presentation in French.
