  • September 14, 2014 Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost 10:00 AM Worship Service

    Prelude "Morning Reverie" Steven Scott

Welcome Rev. Chris Fuss Welcome to Aldersgate and to this worship experience! Please take a moment to sign the attendance pad found at the end of each pew and then pass it down to your neighbor. If you have a prayer request please complete the blue card found in your pews and pass it to the ushers during the opening hymn. Kindly silence all electronic devices as we prepare to worship.

*Call to Worship Kay Ansell Leader: Welcome to you, the weak and the strong. People: Christ Jesus welcomes us here. Leader: Welcome to you, sinners and saints. People: Gods grace embraces us all. Leader: Welcome to you, forgiven and forgiving. People: The Spirit binds us in unity and love.

*Opening Hymn 384 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling BEECHER

*Opening Prayer Almighty and merciful God, we know that when we offend another, we offend you. We are aware that we have often allowed the shadow of hate to cloud our souls, hiding the light from our unseeking eyes. We have said unpleasant and hurtful things to our brothers and sisters when they failed to live up to our expectations. Grant that we might find that spark of love that ever burns within us, the love that you have shown to us even when we failed you. Fan the embers of that love until it roars again in flames of love, peace, and reconciliation. Forgive us our sins and help us to forgive those who have sinned against us. Lead us into new life through your Son Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of all. Amen. MICHAEL J. O'DONNELL

Come Now Children All children are invited to come forward as the congregation sings: Come, now, children, this is your time; God loves you, we love you, you are the gift of our church!

On Sunday, September 28th from 11:10-11:30 all adults and youth who volunteer or work with children and youth at Aldersgate UMC are asked to gather for a review of the church's Child Protection Policy and our procedures at AUMC. As everyone begins heading back to school for the year it's the perfect time to get together and review the policies and procedures in place to make sure our children, families, and volunteers are safe at all times. Sandi Abbott, AUMC Children's Safety Coordinator, and Rachel Miller, Director of Ministries with Young People, will spend 15-20 minutes with all volunteers and staff who work directly with children and youth. Please makes plans now to attend. (Location in the church TBA)

AMP is currently in search of a Drummer with intermediate to advance skill levels (kit provided). This position require attending practice on Thursday nights, providing music for the AMP service on Sundays at 11:30 and a willingness to support other musical activities within the church and community. For information, contact Chelsea at [email protected].

A Note of Thanks It is very difficult to adequately express our sincere appreciation to our Aldersgate Family for the outpouring of Christian Love we received after the passing of my wife, Harriett, through cards, food, attendance at ceremonies, and the wonderful reception after the service. May God bless you all. Bill Adams and family

Three opportunities to pray with Aldersgate!

Wednesday Night Prayer: Scripture, prayer, silence, and conversation: Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30 PM - Room 108. All are welcome to just show up and join us in prayer. This does not require a weekly commitment - if the Holy Spirit is moving you to prayer come join us for an hour!

Thursday Prayer Walk! Thursday, September 18th 6:30 - 7:30 PM. We will prayer walk local neighborhoods which are close to Aldersgate and within our one mile radius. We will meet under the covered walkway by the office entrance at 6:30 PM. All are welcome - no experience necessary!

Spiritual Growth Prayer Challenge: This week please pray for 15 minutes a day specifically for Pastor Scott; Pastor Chris; and our church staff. Lift them up in prayer that they might glorify God in all their actions and lead us to continue to grow God's Kingdom here on earth!

New Dinner Groups This Fall A great opportunity to meet and get to know others, dinner groups meet once a month for a pot-luck meal in someone's home or at a restaurant, depending on what works best for each set of participants. Groups are shuffled every 3 months. This is open to anyone within and beyond the Aldersgate community. Simply indicate your interest the response card found in Sunday's worship bulletin. For more information, please contact Melissa King:[email protected] or 434.973.4778.

Fall Potluck Gathering Spend an informal Saturday evening, sharing a relaxed meal and meeting new people, at the home of Billie Campbell and Raymond Keneipp in Earlysville. We will send out dates to those expressing an interest. Come if you can and bring your favorite dish. Sign up by sending an e-mail to Billie Campbell at [email protected].

  • Have an announcement to put in the bulletin or e-Note? Please send your submissions to [email protected] AND [email protected]. Weekly deadline is Wednesday NOON.

College Student Care Packages Can you believe it's time for another school year to start?! With that in mind, please let me know any Aldersgate affiliated college student's address that you may have. We send out care packages during exam times twice a year and the kids really enjoy them and are glad to know that their church family is thinking about them. But we can't send out the packages if we don't have the name and address! Please get the information to either the church office or directly to Susan Reed (973-0766; you can leave message or [email protected]). Thanks!

Baked Potato and Salad Lunch, Sunday, September 21 September is Hunger Action Month and to raise awareness of the 50 million people in the United States who are hungry or food insecure, the Outreach and Missions Team is inviting you to join us for a Baked Potato and Salad Lunch on Sunday, September 21, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the oldfellowship hall on the lower level. The cost is $5 per person with a maximum of $20 per family. Children aged 3 and under eat free. Proceeds will benefit the Society of St. Andrew. Since 1983, the Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) has salvaged fresh, nutritious produce from American farms - produce that otherwise would be left to rot - and delivered it to agencies across the nation that serve the poor. SoSA helps feed America's hungry three ways: Gleaning Network, Potato & Produce Project and Harvest of Hope. To learn more, visit www.endhunger.org or contact Susan Painter [email protected] or 434-973-9522.

Honduras Mission Trip Update Ann Galione and Rachel Miller will be leaving for Worldwide Heart to Heart in Honduras in October. Right now about $2,000 is still needed to make this trip a reality. If you are able to give (any amount) please make your check payable to AUMC with "VIM" (Volunteers in Mission) in the memo line.

(Please contact Rachel to let her know you will be attending and to get directions to her home, which is less than 2 miles from the church - [email protected])

Youth Room Construction Begins This summer the Trustees and several volunteers worked hard to move the formerly downstairs offices of Associate Pastor Chris Fuss and Director of Ministries with Young People Rachel Miller upstairs closer to other staffers. Now it's on to converting downstairs classrooms into a new designated space for our youth. Demolition of pre-existing walls has already taken place and now it's on to construction. Stay tuned for details!
