RECONCILIATION SERVICES AT SAN LUIS REY PARISH

There are two Reconciliaon Services during Advent at SanLuis Rey Parish. Both give the opportunity to go to confessionor celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliaon, to give it itscorrect tle. All sacraments give grace, help from God whichenables us to live the Chrisan life. Reconciliaon is a sacra-ment of repair and renewal it offers the grace to be sorry forpast wrongs and to strengthen us in our resolve to be morefaithful.

All Catholics are encouraged to go to confession/reconciliaon before Christmas. Advent is a period of prepara-on for the celebraon of the birth of Christ, which we call theIncarnaon, the feast of Christmas. At Christmas we receive

Our Lord again as if for the first me when he became one ofus in flesh and blood. The Sacrament of Reconciliaon is awonderful way to welcome Him. In Advent John the Bapstwill tell us, Prepare the way of the Lord; make his pathsstraight! What beer way toprepare and make straightthanby confessing our sins, receiving Gods pardon and renewingour faith in Jesus, born again in our hearts this Christmas.

    FR. ADRIANS CORNER

Its been almost a month since I wrote anything here in mycorner. We had our Stewardship Campaign with leers fromthe Pastor all through November so I decided to take a backseat.

Lets hope and pray that the Stewardship Campaign makes adifference. We need $5,000 extra a month to make up theshorall in our weekly collecons. We have a huge ReligiousEducaon Program to fund. We are passing on the faith to the

young and R.E. must be a priority in the life of the parish.Doing good Liturgy takes money music, cantors, instrumen-talists, and our Director of Worship. Keeping the lights and aircondioning/heang on, bread and wine for the Eucharist, candles, laundry, and flowers for the liturgical environmentcost a lot. Paying the salaries of our extremely busy staff andkeeping a standard of service to the people of the parish takesmoney. One extra dollar from everyone would make thedifference and two would enable us to pay our bills withoutanxiety. None of us wants cut-backs but rather we want to goforward and be even beer than we are. But it takesmoney.yes, money!! And not occasionally but every week!Sorry to be blunt but this is the truth. The first Sunday of ourcampaign was wonderful and the response generous, but on

week two we were virtually back to where we started. Thiswill not work. Its got to be consistent in order to make a realdifference.

We have an excellent Confirmaon Class this year. Theyaend workshops at the Mission once a month and classes onTuesday evenings at the parish. Saturday before last I cookedfor 100 of them at the Mission (I must be crazy!) and therewas nothing leover! I wanted our young people to experi-ence the hospitality of our community and to understand thatservice is central to the vision presented by Jesus in the Gos-pel. What beer way than to cook a meal! Anyhow, before Iget all carried away theologically let me say that I simply lovedcooking for the Confirmaon Class, the teachers and volun-teers who accompany them and I consider it a great compli-

ment to my culinary skills that there was nothing leand Imean nothingnada! For those interested in such things; Imade a beef and hot Italian sausage ragu sauce for penne pas-ta with spring green salad and crusty bread. Simple, tasty andeasy on our very ght budget!

The holiday season is upon us and I hope that you had awonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you to everyone who contrib-uted to the Social Concerns Food Drive at the parish. Yourkindness and generosity has enabled us to look aer needyfolks who experience hardship at this me of year in a parcu-lar way.

Soon it will be Advent and we will be preparing for the Incar-naon the coming of Our Lord. Advent is all about waingand waing is something we have a hard me doing in our

culture. Waing can be anxious or peaceful it can heightenthe tension of ancipaon so that when Christmas finally ar-rives we are bursng with delight at the promise of God ful-filled. I hope that your Advent will be not at all anxious orfraught with worry about what gis to buy, what food to eat, what party to aend, but that instead it will be a me of joyfulancipaon for Jesus. The Franciscan, Murray Bodo, in hislovely book Francis, the Journey and the Dream says ofChristmas: At Christmas it was the infant Christ who was bornagain in human hearts, and it struck St. Francis that God cameto earth as a baby so that we would have someone to care for.

Christmas was the dearest of feasts because it meant that Godwas now one of us. Flesh of ourflesh and bone of our bone, this child we could approach without fear. We could be sillyand uninhibited as we sought to make him laugh. We could betotally ourselves because a child accepts us as we are andscreams with delight at our lile performances in his behalf.Wishing you a happy Advent of peaceful waing!

parroquial.

Y no ocasional-

no funcionar.

Misin (deb haber estado loco!) Y no sobr nada! Yo quise

Gracias a
