HOLY WEEK Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday and ends on Holy Saturday. On this Palm Sunday, we hear the story of the Passion from the gospel of Luke. On Holy Tuesday the Chrism Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral where the Holy Oils to be used at each parish in the diocese of Rochester will be blessed by the Bishop. It is also the Mass where the priests renew their priestly vows. It is always a very beautiful celebration which is open to everyone. On Wednesday, we have a wonderful presentation of the Passion with Tenebrae. The service begins with two candelabras with fourteen lit candles. The candles are extinguished after readings from the Passion and beautiful hymns until the only candle left is the Easter Candle. It is quite powerful. On Thursday night, we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper which includes the presentation of the Holy Oils recently blessed by the Bishop and the Foot Washing Ceremony. The readings focus on the institution of the Eucharist and what it means for us. That liturgy does not end. The Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession to a specially prepared tabernacle for adoration until 10pm. On Good Friday, the tabernacles are emptied and the altars stripped. At 3pm there will be a Good Friday Service at St. Mary’s. At 7pm that night there will be the traditional Stations of the Cross at St. Patrick’s. At the same time there will be an ecumenical Good Friday Service at the United Methodist Church in Seneca Falls. A number of churches in the Seneca Falls will come together for the service. On Saturday, there will be a blessing of Easter food at noon at St. Mary’s. All are invited to bring food that they will be eating on Easter to be blessed. At 7pm that night the Easter Vigil will begin with a blessing of the fire, blessing of the new Easter Candle followed by the Liturgy of the Word. Next comes the Liturgy of Baptism, however this year we have no one to be baptized so we will bless the water. We do have one person to be received into the Church and confirmed. We conclude with the liturgy of the Eucharist. The Easter Vigil is one of the most solemn and beautiful celebrations that we have. Easter Sunday Masses will be held at the regular times. Please join us for any or all of the services and please bring a friend.

Shroud of Turin – The Latest Scientific Evidence...A presentation on The Shroud of Turin will be on April 22 at 6:30 PM at St. Francis-St. Clare Ministry Center, 25 Center St. in Waterloo. The holographic image of Jesus has stumped thousands of scientists. The presentation is on Powerpoint and “is based on 6 days of the highest-level forensic studies (24 hours a day). No other study compares to it including unique studies of pollen samples. It also includes maps and people involved in the keeping and transfer of the Shroud. This review is the forensic evidence behind the belief that the Shroud is not a forgery but holds the miraculous image of a man, Jesus Christ,” states presenter Frank Netti. Netti earned BAs in Math from SUC at Buffalo and English from Syracuse University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He worked as a Financial Advisor for 38 years and is now retired. Since retirement in 2016, Netti has done volunteer work for AARP as a tax preparer, the Hospice of the Finger Lakes, past Grand Knight #10709 Auburn, NY, and for his parish in Auburn. The presentation will be approximately one hour. Parking is available behind St. Mary’s Church. Refreshments will be served. For more information call Netti at 315 246 7021

STEWARDSHIP CORNER

April 14, 2019 Palm Sunday “I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me. “ (LUKE

22:34) How many times have you heard someone make a disparaging comment about Jesus or our Catholic faith? How did you react? Do you remain quiet not to cause a disturbance? Or, do you remain quiet because you believe people will think negatively about you? Pray for the courage to speak up and enter into a respectful dialogue when the opportunity arises.

CRS Rice Bowl During Holy Weed, we walk with Jesus and remember that he endured the suffering and pain of Good

Friday to give us eternal life with God. During Lent, we have mirrored Christ’s love for us by encountering our brothers & sisters most in need around the world, by giving up what we enjoy and making sacrifices for the good of others. WE PRAYED to thank God for the gifts he has given us, and we asked for guidance to use these gifts to help our brothers and sisters throughout the world. WE FASTED, or gave up something, to help us remember what is really important: our relationship with God. And we fasted in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who do not have enough to eat. WE GAVE ALMS to our CRS Rice Bowls to help the poor around the world and in our community. As we end our Lenten journey of encounter, we pray that these, our Lenten sacrifices, may be an offering of solidarity and promise to continue to serve the poor and vulnerable. As good stewards of your many gifts, may we always remember that when we encounter those who thirst and hunger, those forced to flee their homes because of violence or lack of opportunity, and anyone who needs comfort, we are encountering the risen Christ. Please return your filled Rice Bowls today or on Easter Sunday. They may be placed in the marked containers located at altar area of each church or placed in a labeled envelope and dropped in the collection basket. Thank you!
