D F ,

Peace and all Good!

Today’s Scripture passages truly engage our imagina-on: the brutality of the scene in Maccabees; Paul’s

le er to the Thessalonians depic ng God as a vigilant sen nel; and Luke’s Gospel en cing us to visualize the resurrected life. These images are vastly different but they have one common theme: Whatever we know of this life pales in comparison to the fullness of life in Christ that is promised us in the resurrec on. This past week we celebrated two beau ful Feasts, All Saints and All Souls, both of which called us to remember that for God’s faithful, life is changed and not ended. This is a theme we will hear about more during this month of No-vember—a month to honor all the faithful departed. May they rest in peace. Amen. The Pastoral Council and the Old Mission Retreat Cen-ter are planning something new and exci ng for us! Be-ginning on November 13th and each month a er that, special guest speakers will present various topics on Sun-day mornings between Masses en tled: “Being Francis-can—Conversa ons on Living a Franciscan Life.” Our pre-senters will be friars, and Franciscan sisters and others who can speak to our Franciscan iden ty. Br. Bill short will begin these presenta ons with “Preparing for the Lord’s Coming”. Don’t miss it! These presenta ons are given in English before the 9:05-9:50 a.m. Mass and in Spanish 10:50-11:45 a.m. On November 20th, Pope Francis will officially bring our celebra on of this Holy Year of Mercy to a close. A “Closing of the Holy Doors” ceremony will take place a er the 10 a.m. and Noon Masses. Lest we forget, God’s mercy and our mercy is for a life me! In closing, a sincere thank you to all who created the beau ful Altars of the Dead for “Día de los Muertos” this past week. It was so lovely to see remembrances of fam-ily, friends and friars who have served here. May they pray for us all! Love,

S T E W A R D S H I P T H O U G H T

In today’s second reading, Saint Paul offers encouragement to the Chris an community and prays that the Lord ins ll encouragement in their hearts. There is nothing worse

than discouragement to drain people spiritually and emo onally. Yet, at mes, it is much easier to lose pa-

ence with others and offer cri cal and discouraging words. We are “our brothers’ (and sisters’) keepers.” We are stewards of our rela onships with others. Offering encouragement is essen al to the exercise of that stew-ardship. Saint Paul understood that God worked through him just as God works through us to encourage others. How o en do we ask the Lord for encouragement? How o en do we look for opportuni es to affirm, strengthen and encourage others in our daily lives?

No one is to be called an enemy, all are your benefactors, and no one does you

harm. You have no enemy except yourselves. ~Saint Francis of Assisi

When God blesses you financially, don’t raise your standard of living. Raise your standard of giving.

Say AMEN if you agree.

CLOSING of the HOLY DOORS

I wish that the Jubilee Indul-gence may reach each one as

a genuine experience of God's mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father who welcomes and forgives, forge ng com-

pletely the sin commi ed. – Pope Francis, Le er to Archbish-

op Rino Fisichella, Sept. 1, 2015.

Save the Date!

On November 20th, a er the 10am and 12noon Masses, there will be a celebra-

There have been many Jubilee Years – 26 ordinary Jubilees and three extraordinary – and each has featured a special plenary indulgence (the complete remission of all temporal punishment due to sin). To receive the Jubilee Year indulgence, you must be in a state of grace, sacramentally confess your sins, re-ceive the Holy Eucharist, pray for the inten ons of the Holy Father, and pass through our Holy Door before the end of day, Nov. 20, 2016, the Solemnity of Christ the King. Care for a loved one or someone entrusted to you by a family is one of the most unselfish and self-giving responsibili es anyone assumes. With every good inten on however, caregivers can run out of energy, get

present with their sick loved one. • Hospice staff, Ministers to the Sick & Dying, Nurses,

8 | PARROQUIA MISION SAN LUIS REY, Oceanside, California - 6 de Noviembre de 2016

QUERIDOS AMIGOS,

¡Paz y Bien!
