SPICER 170 & 190 CARRIER REDESIGN NEW SERVICE CARRIER PART NUMBERS

TO: All Dana Aftermarket Group Customers Background: Dana is pleased to announce several significant design enhancements to the internal components of the 170 & 190 heavy tandem and single drive axle models. These design enhancements improve reliability and durability across different areas of the carrier. With these enhancements special tools are no longer required, therefore making the carrier easier to service and reassemble. The new design carriers went into production in North America on the 10th June 2013. Dana Australia have released the new design 190 model range and the 170 model range is to be released early 2014.

• New service carrier part numbers will supersede the old original carrier part numbers. • Original and new service carriers are completely interchangeable. • Transition period – Original Spicer service carriers will continue to be shipped until

inventory is exhausted. Once current inventory of the original carriers / part numbers is exhausted, we will start shipping the new carriers under the new part numbers.

• Service carrier part numbers are shown on the chart on pages 3 & 4 of this bulletin.

A new Dana illustrated parts book for models manufactured on or AFTER JUNE 10, 2013 has been released. Refer to publication AXIP-0057A which can be found in the literature section at www.spicerparts.com The current Dana illustrated parts list AXIP-0057 has been updated and will only reflect service kits and parts that are used for models manufactured BEFORE JUNE 10, 2013. Pictured below are the specific sections of the carriers that were redesigned. The picture below is that of a D170, but the highlighted parts pictured are the general sections that represent the changes in all 170 and 190 models. Each of these sections is detailed on bulletin number HAXL-PNI-40 which can be found in the literature section at www.spicerparts.com Including Interchangeability facts. The existing service manual AXSM-0057 has been updated to include the design changes.
