Our Churchs Wider MissionOn November 7th there is a special envelope in your packet for our OCWM offering. This isfor the work of our denomination beyond our township. Your mission funds support thework of the UCC in higher education.

While some are surprised to hear the UCC is involved in collegeeducation others are delighted. For example, Our Churchs WiderMission dollars that support the UCC Council for Higher Educationbrought Olivet College and Illinois College students and chaplainstogether for Gulf Coast hurricane relief in New Orleans. Then yourgenerous gifts made it possible for some of these students to meetwith Dillard University friends as the school began to rebuild.

Jesus was truly there in their sharing together in this moment ofrebuilding and your gifts made it possible.

Our Churchs WiderMission funds also help the UCC colleges and seminaries meet tosupport one another. Students and faculty meet with chaplains and presidents. They areall one in Christ Jesus. Isnt this the way the world is supposed to be? Everybody helpingeach other and carrying one anothers burdens? Yes. Thanks to you the United Churchof Christ is still involved in college education. The founding of colleges, seminaries, academies, and historically black colleges was always part of our mission. This is notsurprising considering the German city of Heidelberg was a center of intellectual life.Geneva in Switzerland was also a center of learning. These are the cities where ourchurch began. And the founders of our denomination were all well educated peopledespite their humble beginnings. Education has always been important to ourdenomination. Wherever you are on the journey, the UCC cares about your path of faith,

learning, and service. Thank you for setting aside part of your weekly offering for OurChurchs Wider Mission.

The next service of Holy Communion is November 28th, the First Sunday of Advent. Ifyou wish to receive Holy Communion before this date, or if you have a family member whois unable to come to worship to receive Holy Communion, please speak to the pastor.
