Bulletin 1 Term 2
From
2 May, winter uniform will be
compulsory.
Please ensure that your child wears
the correct uniform.
Nicky Abdinor Born without arms; not without attitude
Nicky Abdinor is an expert on doing MORE with less. She is an agent of change, who will leave an audience believing in their abilities, and focusing on what they CAN do. Nicky was born without arms and shortened legs, which had no medical explanation. Nicky recognises that positive thinking is helpful, but we also need to be rational and realistic. Nicky Abdinor is an inspirational keynote speaker and a registered Clinical Psychologist.
Nicky will be addressing Parow North learners on Friday, 5 May 2017.
Nicky Abdinor is the founder and chairperson for the registered non-profit organisation called Nicky’s Drive, which aims to fund car adaptations for people with disabilities with-in South Africa. Nicky drives a specially modified car, which was donated to her from the UK, many years ago. She takes “hands-free” to a whole new level! Nicky was inspired to start the non-profit organisation to help others enjoy the same mobility and independence as she does. The main form of fundraising for the organisation is through Nicky’s inspirational talks. To date, Nicky’s Drive has helped 12 people realise their dream to drive!
Parow North learners will be asked to colour in a picture of a car, mount it on a piece of
cardboard, write a short message on the back, and attach two R5 coins to the two wheels of the
car. This will serve as a small donation towards Nicky’s Drive. It would be greatly appreciated if
every learner could donate R10 towards this worthwhile cause.

Scarves, scarves and more scarves!!!!
A heartfelt “thank you” to everyone, who donated a ball of double knitting
wool towards our knitting project. It is greatly appreciated. Our “Knitting Club” is up and running and, currently, we have ten children, who come every Monday, Wednesday and Fri-day, during second break, to knit. It is a humbling experience to see the commitment and enthusiasm these learners demonstrate when knitting their scarves. We have three
boys, who have also joined the group and their knitting and crocheting skills are right up there with the girls! Thank you to the grannies, aunties, mothers and staff members, who have knitted scarves for our project. They are beautiful and appre-ciated. We will be handing over all the scarves only in the middle of the third term, so there is
more than enough time for those of you, who would still like to contribute, either by donating wool or by actually knitting scarves. If you would like to knit, please remember to cast on 36 stitches and to knit until the scarf is approximately 120cm long. The more scarves we knit, the more scarves we can donate to children who need them. We are still in need of wool and size 5 knitting needles, so please send your contribution to school as soon as possible. It never ceases to amaze me how the
learners, teachers and parents of
Parow North Primary are always will-
ing to make a difference to others,
who are less fortunate than ourselves.
We, at Parow North Primary, are extremely proud of the com-
mitment you have all demonstrated when helping others.

A letter from a parent to get involved with the
Smile Foundation
A lady at my work collects plastic bottle caps for the Smile Foundation, and it started with our milk tops and cooldrink tops at work. Diane Pienaar caught on, and spread the word among the parents of the Af-tercare kids… and the BLESSINGS STARTED POURING IN. Most of the time, Diane doesn’t even know who the children are, who are bringing her BAGS full of caps, as some even aren’t in the Aftercare! Yesterday, we received a bag of caps that looked like it came from a manufac-turing plant!!! I don’t know WHO to thank for all their hard work, and I don’t know if these parents even KNOW what a difference they are making in some underprivi-leged children’s lives. I have attached a link to the Smile Foundation website for ease of refer-ence, for anyone not aware of their cause. These people aren’t even asking for money…. Trash, that we dump on a daily basis, is what generates their funds. http://www.smilefoundationsa.org
