Welcome to the 15th Annual Highland Bull Sale

We would like to invite you to Bragg Creek for the 15th Annual Highland Bull Sale on March 17th, 2018 at 1pm. This year we will be offering yearling Limousin, Angus, Limflex and Percentage Limousin bulls, as well as an offering of select yearling heifers. This year we decided to feed both our bulls and replacement heifers at Cattleland and they have done an excellent job.

As always our Limousin bulls all have genetic profiles to determine, either by pedigree or test whether they are homozygous polled or homozygous black. Our ultimate goal at Highland is to be a strictly homozygous polled herd. This is the most valuable trait that we can pass along to our commercial producers, because no matter what you breed them to, they will have polled progeny. All bulls will be semen tested and on sale day a supplement sheet with be provided with weights and scrotals.

This year to make a great addition to our sale, we purchased fifteen bulls from two different herds, Linda & the late Doug Henderson of Henderson Cattle Company provided us with eight outstanding Angus bulls and Neil and Deneen Brown of Double 4 Farming; the owners of our Champion Bull Highland Boston, he is the sire of seven percentage Limousin bulls in the sale. They are worth your attention!

With our new addition of selling Limousin replacement females, we would like to give the successful bidder the option of purchasing a single heifer, or taking as many as they would like for their winning bid. These heifers have also been tested or by pedigree and all are homozygous polled.

We will be again offering a Sight Unseen Plan- if you are unable to attend the sale and wish to purchase, you may contact Rob, Amanda, Chris or anyone of the sale staff and we will help you fill your order. When the bull is delivered, if you are not satisfied we will then take the bull back at no cost to you. We will help with delivery arrangements and deliver free up to 300 miles—it would however, be greatly appreciated if any bulls could be picked up sale day or no later than May 1st.

We also would like to give thanks to many individuals who help us throughout the spring preparing for our bull sale, Allen (Buck) Thompson for clipping, Katie Songer of Top Stock for Graphic Design and Kristine Mussellman for her management of the heifers and bulls while they are at Cattleland Feedyards.

Neil & Deneen Brown of Double Four Farming of Erskine, Alberta purchased possession of Highland Boston in the Combest Limousin Dispersal in November 2015. Neil told us that he would be done using Boston at the end of June 2016. As a result we fed up Boston and he was the Grand Champion Bull at the 2016 Agribition. We then made a deal with the Browns for them to set aside some half Angus – half Boston bull calves, from their outstanding Angus herd. We guarantee that you be impressed with these percentage bulls. We have already asked Neil to keep 2018 models for us. Of the seven bulls, all are homozygous polled and six of the seven are homozygous black.

OUR EMPHASIS ON POLLED

We at Highland believe that the homozygous polled trait is the most important thing we can pass on to commercial cattlemen. If you use a homozygous polled bull, you will not have to deal with horns. We do not use the term double polled as all it means is that the parents are polled and the offspring have not been tested or they did not pass the homozygous test. We have only used homozygous bulls for several years and our goal is to have homozygous polled herd of which we will be very close to 90% by the end of 2018!!!

In the fall of 2017, we purchased these eight Angus bull calves from life long friends, Doug & Linda Henderson. Unfortunately, Doug passed away about a month later.
