Teach the participants and parents where their food comes from
Encourage participants and parents to explore different vegetables and incorporate them into their diet
Encourage and ensure participants and parents that they are able to start their own vegetable garden at home

Day 1: Vegetable “Seed to Harvest Game”
Kids each picked a picture of a seed. Had to match picture of seed to the vegetables
we “harvested.”Discussed similarities in different seeds, How
each vegetable grows from the seed, etc.
Day 2: Garden Safety; Plant the Seeds and

Day 3: Check on garden; Grow your own seeds in a plastic bag!; Using
vegetables in your July 4th meal Planted pea seeds in
plastic bag using paper towels, staples and water.
We checked back on the seeds the next week and they had all sprouted!
Some kids took their seeds home – you can take them out of the plastic bag and put them in a planter once they’ve sprouted!
Day 4: Tasting Day!Vegetables weren’t quite ready, but I had back
ups!Do different colored peppers taste differently?
What about cherry vs. roma vs. beefsteak tomatoes? (Blind test)
Cooked broccoli 3 different ways (steamed, microwaved, raw)
Tasted eggplant
Day 6: Check on garden; Recipe Contest; Paint pots
Have some eggplant and peppers coming in! Recipe contest:
Split into teams Must contain at least one vegetable from
our garden Must be healthy Panel of judges (parents)
Painted pots so they can plant something in the future!
