Mass Times, Readings & Intentions Generous Hearts

Forming Our Faith

There may not be a better example of the hypocrisy among the Pharisees than today’s gospel. It’s not that they set out to trap Jesus with their question. It’s that they ended up trapping themselves. They fully understood the first part of the Decalogue (10 commandments) and how Jesus combined it into a single commandment of loving God will all our hearts, our souls and our minds. They also fully understood the second part of the Decalogue, to love our neighbor as ourselves. They understood, but instead of being living examples, they exempted themselves and held others accountable. They trapped themselves in their hypocrisy. Today, especially this time of year, we can also see examples of hypocrisy. Politicians say one thing and do another. They hold everyone else to a different standard than how they live their own lives. We can sometimes fall into this trap as well. It is easy with today’s culture of entitlement. But if we stay close to God and spend dedicated moments with him each day, we have a better opportunity to catch ourselves sooner than later and not end up saying what we are supposed to, but then doing the opposite.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ends Sunday, November 2nd this year! As you go to bed that Saturday night, don’t forget to “fall back” one hour and set your clocks accordingly or be an hour early for Mass!

All our 1000 new hymnals have been purchased and dedicated, thanks to the amazing generosity of our parishioners! We are still accepting funds for supplementary choir books that can be dedicated as well. For the latest list of remaining items, check out the church website: www.st-louis.org, along with a downloadable order form.

This past week, Mrs. Fletcher's 2nd grade class was learning about Sacramentals and what they signify in the Catholic faith. They, along with Kindergarten, learned to navigate the Rosary and how to use it during prayer. 2nd grade is starting their journey towards preparing for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, which they will be receiving later this school year. This is the first of many times where they will engage in service to those in our younger grades. We are excited for 2nd grade to start on this journey of faith and look forward to these milestones.

Blessings, Ms. Tamara Luera
