Flatiron Constructors, Inc./Blythe Development Company Joint Venture and HDR Engineering Inc. • Rebuild the 1.2-mile section of Business 40, which includes
reconstruction of the roadway, 9 vehicular bridges and 2 pedestrian bridges.
• Build a major section of the Multi-Use Path from Peters Creek Parkway to Liberty Street (remaining section from Peters Creek to Lockland will be built afterwards)
• Increase speed limit to 55mph.

A Transportation Management Plan (TMP) is currently being
reviewed by the City and NCDOT.
The TMP includes detours for vehicles and pedestrians.

• Currently, NO vehicular detours are planned on First or Second Streets between Broad and Marshall Streets.
• Pedestrian detours are planned for First Street between Broad and Marshall Streets.
• A capacity analysis is being conducted on the proposed detours - results are anticipated this summer.

• Managing accidents will be critical during closure. • NCDOT is coordinating with City and County services,
including Police, Fire, EMS, to remove/clear accidents quickly.
• Will install mobile message boards to alert drivers. • Will contract with towing company to ensure quick
removal of vehicles. • Will add one more driver to IMAP routes, add routes and
mobilize equipment at specific locations.
