Watershed development program in India is silently revolutionalizing the rainfed areas and can become Growth Engine for inclusive and sustainable development in vast tracts of rainfed areas in India
•Project initiated in the year
2009 under a consortium that
included the Government of
India, ICRISAT, READ (Rural
Education and Agricultural
Development) and Government
of Telangana
• The project was developed for
demonstrating the potential of
rainfed areas for medium
rainfall dryland areas (700-1100
mm rainfall/annum)
Soil and water conservation structures include:
•Presently there are 42 borewells
and 5 open wells
•Also groundwater levels have
increased by 2.8-3.6 m after
construction of the new check
dams
