Educators, Nursing Leaders, Chiropodists/Podiatrists, Allied Health Professionals

Welcome, St. Michael’s Hospital Wound Care Team invites you to attend our 6th biannual conference.

Expanding on our 2006 theme of building bridges for seamless wound care, we acknowledge the complexities of translating knowledge within the political landscape of health care delivery and the need to negotiate and navigate the agendas of health policy makers, researchers and practitioners using a collaborative inter-professional approach. We are delighted to share current innovative wound care initiatives that are occurring at the macro, meso and micro levels. These initiatives will ultimately support the delivery of safer wound prevention and treatment for our patients in all health care sectors.

This year we have used Boyer’s Model of Clinical Scholarship as a framework for defining the scope of wound care practice. The domains of the Clinical Scholarship Model will be illustrated in each stream of the conference. The framework of this conference reflects our strategic plan for our corporate wound care program at St. Michael’s Hospital. We are looking forward to seeing you, Laura Teague, RN, MN, APN (Co-Chair) Dr. James Mahoney, MD, FRCSC (Co-Chair)

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE: • To appreciate the impact of system

integration (policy, research, knowledge translation, funding and resources) on the provision of wound health care services in Ontario

• To explore potential opportunities to integrate wound prevention and treatment services across LHINs

• To provide exemplars of inter-professional collaboration in knowledge transfer and education in wound prevention and treatment

• To utilize Boyer's Model as a foundation for achieving clinical excellence and scholarship in the provision of wound prevention and treatment

Laura Teague, APN (Co-Chair) James Mahoney, Chief of Plastic Surgery (Co-Chair) Janice Hon, Occupational Therapist Lianne Jeffs, Director of Nursing Research Suzanne Lu, Chiropodist Tobi Mark, Chiropodist Ann-Marie McLaren, Chiropodist Karen Polansky, CNS Allison Rankine, Clinical Coordinator Christine Williams, Administrative Secretary

Session A Strategic Planning Presenter: Karon West Objectives: Given the unprecedented changes occurring in our world today, planning plays an essential role in organizations. Strategic planning is a deliberate and thoughtful process that helps leaders and staff develop a strategic perspective for planning the future while being able to manage the ongoing day-to-day business activities. It is a process by which the members of an organization understand the context for change, envision its future, and develop the necessary procedures and operations to achieve that future. Members work through each step of this comprehensive planning process – from environmental scanning and stakeholder involvement, values and vision - to implementation.
