Christmas Miracle Offering – Habitat for Humanity When God’s people hear and respond to God by adjusting their typical Christmas giving, miraculous things happen. On Christmas Eve alone $21,387.50 was given toward our goal of $40,000. The latest total is $32,906.50 If you would be interested in serving on the Meade County Habitat for Humanity Board or a sub-committee, please contact Pastor Jeff Carter. These volunteer positions represent the greatest need at this point for our work with Habitat for Humanity to move forward in building a home for a Meade County family.

The BUMC Tribe will host a Lucky To Have You Dinner

for their church familySunday, March 18, at 6 p.m.Dinner and entertainment

provided by The Tribe! Please sign up on the clipboard

by the youth bulletin board.

Welcome LUCKY March, the Easter Season, and the start of spring weather! The Tribe has been busy! This month we have said goodbye to our “home” for the past six years – our youth house! We spent some time reflecting and be-ing thankful for all of the blessings that have come from our home over the hill. Our current seniors were in 7th grade when we moved into the building, and many great relationships, small groups, Tribe Thanks-givings, Christmas parties, mission trips, Jesus les-sons, fun events, initiations, etc. have been unveiled within those walls. We have found ourselves a new temporary home in the Family Life Center until further notice, so you’ll be seeing more of us! This month we are focusing on the reasons why we are LUCKY as a youth group, and we decided that one of the most important reasons is because of YOU – our church family! So to thank you, we are hosting our WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE YOU dinner and entertain-ment show on Sunday, March 18, at 6 p.m. Look for sign-up sheets and reserve your spot for our GREEN THEME dinner and BUMC’s GOT TALENT! There is no cost for this event; it’s just our way of saying THANKS to our church for always supporting us! As always, I am blessed to have your kids in youth and love them unconditionally. Thanks for entrusting me with them!

I continue to hear good reports about everyone’s experience with The Story. As time goes on, it would only be natural for enthusiasm or interest to begin to wane. I want to encourage you to stay with your regular reading. The Bible is an unfold-ing revelation of God’s plan for God’s creation, and you don’t want to miss anything! If you are finding your reading not as helpful as you hoped, I would encourage you to find a small group so you can dis-cuss the readings and themes. You can even start your own group over lunch or coffee with just a few friends. We can help resource you all you want to get the most our of The Story. We will take a break from The Story for two weeks to focus on Holy Week and Easter and then finish the Old Testament before taking a break for the summer. Speaking of Lent and Easter…You are not hearing as much about this significant period of the Christian year as you normally would in our church this year. Nevertheless, I would encourage you to find ways to engage with this Lenten sea-son. The fact of Christ’s death and resurrection are central to our Christian faith. In fact the apos-tle Paul said, “And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.” As we are learning through The Story, so much of Old Testament is pointing toward Je-sus and giving us reason to have hope and cel-ebrate our salvation through Jesus. Check out the Holy Week article found here in the newsletter for the many options for worship and reflection during the Easter season.

Trustee Projects The church building and grounds are currently undergoing some changes and renovations. Outside the building, below the playground and adjacent to the walkway and stairs, a retaining wall is begin added to address drainage and erosion concerns. The atrium is receiving new flooring, and the main hallways upstairs and downstairs will be receiving a fresh coat of paint in addition to new and fresh artwork and dis-plays. The leadership council has formed a new building committee to look at needed space, particularly for our youth program. The de-cision was made to cease renting space at the current youth house after not being able to solve significant odor problems. Plans will be explored to bring the youth meeting space back to main church campus as well as looking at future building needs. Ron Barger and Jeff Cannady serve as your trustee representatives on the Leader-ship Council. The new building committee is being chaired by Tom McQuary and Ron Barger.

Brandenburg United Methodist Church will sponsor a blood drive Sunday, March 18, 2018,

from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Bloodmobile parked outside church. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood because of illnesses and diseases,

accidents, injuries and violence. Seven out of ten of us will need blood during our lifetime and you never know when you may need it. Each donor can save as many as three lives with one pint of blood. Giving blood is quick and easy and you can do it every 56 days. Nancy Inman is our blood drive coordinator. For more information, please contact Nancy at 270-422-4413 or the church office at 270-422-2810.

To Our Church Family,

Thank you for your prayers and the good food. We appreciate our church family. Please keep us in your prayers. May God bless you.

Over the last few months, Brandenburg United Methodist Church has been blessed to welcome the following to our church family:

Greg and Gail Dreitzler and their children, Mark and Christine, had been a part of our church sev-eral years ago, but then Gail, who is in the Army, was transferred. With Gail’s return to Fort Knox, the Dreitzlers have come home in more ways than one. Mark and Christine were part of our confirma-tion class last fall. Greg and Gail joined December 10, 2017. Todd and Stacy Blackburn and their sons, Alex and Lucas, joined BUMC on January 21, 2018. Jay and Amy Boyer joined our church family on January 28. Their son, Ian, was part of the confir-mation class last fall, and their daughter, Linnea, was baptized on Confirmation Sunday. Amy was born into a military family and married a military man. She has moved numerous times and was never a member of a church until now. Amy sings in the Chancel Choir. Jeramy and Jodi Witt joined our church family on January 28 as well. Their twin daughters, Keara and Lauren, were also members of the confirma-tion class last fall. The Witts are also a military family. Jeramy is retired and is now attending culinary school; Jodi is in the Reserves. Jodi also sings in the Chancel Choir.

Safety and Security Team Update

Members of a newly formed safety and secu-rity team have been meeting regularly over the past month to make plans to help our church be ready to respond better to any issue which may arise. The team identified five chunks of work to address safety issues: medical, weather/disaster, children/youth, building/facility, and intruder. The team has worked on getting a list of quali-fied medical volunteers, purchasing adequate first aid materials and an AED device. Members of the safety team will serve each Sunday to be ready to assist and respond in case of any type of emergency arises. They will walk the building and grounds to serve as eyes and ears and to assist greeters and ushers in case any problems arise. Any questions for the safety team may be directed to Bill Adams.

We love having you as part of our flock! Let’s keep in touch via e-mail and text!

Brandenburg United Methodist Church has begun using a new tool – Flocknote – to keep in touch with members and friends. If you receive a message from Flocknote via text or e-mail, please know that’s from us. If you’re not receiving messages, please check your spam folder, and indicate

Flocknote as an approved sender. If you are not receiving electronic notices from BUMC and would like to, please e-mail [email protected] with your contact information.
