A CAMPAIGN PROPOSAL FOR CHAPEL HILL ACADEMY

Page 2: Building a Legacy of Faith

Faithful BeginningsFrom the very start, Chapel Hill Academy [CHA] has been dedicated to preparing generations of future leaders who know and love the Lord. Our school was founded in 1970 by a group of Christian parents, led by Arthur Owens to provide Christian education for children and youth that is biblically sound and academically strong. They moved in faith, and 45 years later, the mission remains the heart of this ministry:

To glorify God and assist families by providing

a Christ-centered education which inspires and enables students

to pursue spiritual maturity and academic excellence.

In support of this, God’s faithfulness and provision has been evident throughout Chapel Hill Academy’s history. Currently, CHA serves 335 students from over 200 families who reside in 20 surrounding communities and attend 35 area churches. Over the years, many steps of faith have been taken to help CHA grow and thrive as a K-8 Christian school ministry. In 1998, the CHA community moved in faith to purchase our current facility with much excitement and a vision for the future. Plans for a large-scale expansion project began almost immediately. Through much sacrifice and prayer, part of this dream was realized in 2001 with the completion of the Richard L. Case Education Wing (current K-4 corridor). In 2002, a second capital campaign was launched with the goal of adding the gymnasium and locker rooms. To God’s glory, our students are able to enjoy a wonderful gymnasium, but the locker rooms have yet to be completed. In 2003, due to the economic downturn, the plans for further construction ceased. As the expansion ended, important large-scale repairs and needed improvements were also left undone.

Moving in FaithThe core structure of the building was constructed in the 1950’s, and exercising wise stewardship of what God has provided requires that we take action to maintain and enhance our facility. The leadership of Chapel Hill Academy recently engaged in a strategic planning process to identify the most critical facility and programming needs for the next five years and beyond. As a result, a feasibility study was conducted to gather feedback from the CHA community. The findings of the study support a capital campaign to address the current facility needs while allowing for expansion. In this process, we are committed to seeking the Lord’s direction as we honor the vision of those before us, and as we strive to increase our overall ministry impact. Now is the time to move in faith once again.

Vision for the FutureWe are committed to making an impact for Christ in the world through our students. To effectively meet their growing needs in all academic areas, Bible, fine arts, and athletics, CHA programs will continue to develop. Our education will become even stronger, more relevant, and more able to prepare our students for Christian leadership in high school and beyond.

Much of the campaign initiatives deal with brick and mortar; however, it is important to realize that this alone will not accomplish our goals as a Christian school. New programs and facility improvements will allow us to glorify God by serving more families now and in the future. As the world moves away from the principles the Lord has designed, it is more important than ever before to uphold our mission. We strive to firmly establish a place where families can receive the blessing of a strong education for their children that is centered upon a biblical worldview. Improving and expanding the CHA facility will strengthen our foundation and provide a legacy of faith to future generations.

Three key initiatives that will advance the mission and vision of Chapel Hill Academy:

1. TRANSFORMING OUR CURRENT CAMPUS

• Classroom updates - original facility classrooms are in need of new windows, flooring, lighting, and temperature control.

• Exterior updates - the exterior of the building will be updated with the classroom renovations. The building façade will flow seamlessly with the previous two additions.

• Roof and flooring - the roof is significantly past due for replacement; flooring is deteriorating and needs replacement.

• Kitchen - relocation will allow for updates and modifications that will improve efficiency, service, and capabilities.

Cafeteria - a permanent multipurpose space will be constructed June, 2015 (fully funded by 2015 CHA Gala)

• Maintenance and mechanical - improvements to current systems and replacement of outdated equipment.

2. COMPLETING OUR UNFINISHED PROJECTS

• Locker room - combined with restroom facilities adjoining the gymnasium

• Rest rooms - new visitor restrooms located in the gymnasium hallway.

• New entrance - auditorium entrance will become a main entry point to streamline traffic flow and enhance security.

• Administrative offices relocation - offices at entry provide easy access to administration and enhanced safety and security.

• Safety and security - addition of double entry at east end of K-4 corridor and gymnasium entrances. Alarm bars added to exterior doors.

3. ENHANCING OUR ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

• Fine Arts - addition of a functionally equipped band/music space

• Health & Fitness - a space for wellness/fitness instruction will be located adjacent to the gymnasium.

• STEM - expanded laboratory space with enhanced science and technology capabilities

• Junior Kindergarten - repurposed space located in the current administrative wing.

• General classroom space - addition of one classroom for middle school located at the current Door 2 courtyard.

Building a Legacy of FaithThroughout our history, the Chapel Hill family has made strategic decisions to move forward in faith. We have responded to enrollment growth with a series of facility additions. We have responded to economic downturns by tightening our belt and adjusting staffing and programming accordingly. We have responded to the need for keeping a strong Christian curriculum by adding classes and offerings to prepare the next generation of solid leaders for Christ. Now, as we desire to be good stewards and continue building a legacy of faith, we believe it is time to take action as the Lord leads.

This initiative will take a significant capital investment. Our projected expansion budget based on architect and contractor estimates is approximately $3.0 million. Our goal is to raise these funds over the next three years through a capital campaign.

The proposed scale of giving to the right indicates the levels of donations needed to accomplish our goals. We are asking for your help to support the expansion plans of this ministry.

Your RoleWe invite you to Partner with us in these three ways:
