Build, What the F#!K is Build?

Build is a FREE, localy owned and run magazine made for all automotive enthusiasts who enjoy everything there is about cars, trucks and bikes. This mag WILL NOT be full of editorial B.S. telling you whats cool, whats not, what to buy or what not to. Sure we all have our favorites, but this magazine is for the gearhead who can relate and appreciate the craftsmanship, time and energy it takes, no matter what scene he or she is into. Instead we will bring you local show coverage, shop tours, artist profiles, reader rides, how to’s, mailbag, projects, and multipule ride spotlights on a lifestyle each of us have running through our blood. Our editorial will be kept to a minimum and pictures will be plenty. Being a NON-BIASED magazine, if you don’t see what your into, send us a e-mail and we’ll cover it. From all of us at Build, thanks and keep the shiny side up and the rubber out of the rubarb.

Cheers MikeThanks Mike, give us a break that was our pre-miere issue. You try getting girls to pose for a magazine that nobodys ever heard of, doesnt go over very well. Give it time... Build

I love the local thing you guys got going on. Do you plan on expanding your reader base at all? The raw, blue colar look is great! Dont change it. Jennifer HWell Jen, with the response we have been get-ting about the mag we have decided to expand. So, umm, what are you wearing rite now Jen? Build

Hey Build, you really need more editorial in your mag. I run out of reading material before im done my crap. Corey

Corey, I would worry more about the lack of toilet paper I see on that roll. Thanks for the pic were thinking of making it our next center spread. Build

LANGLEY GOOD TIMES

CRUISE-IN Over 100,000 people battled the crowded city streets of langley to view over 1,700 different cars, trucks and bikes at this years Langley Good Times Cruise-In. We were impressed with the variety of vehicles on display. Either people grew tired of hiding their rides away in locked garages or long over due projects were finished over the winter months. What ever the reason spectators reaped the benefits of the owners endless hours, empty bank accounts and probably the odd broken marriage.

The Gearheads WifeOkay girls, let’s do a quick tidy up before we go shopping. Dolls and homework in your own rooms. Put your shoes in the closet and hang up your coats. Liv get the vacuum, and I’ll do the dusting. What is this I wonder, examining a foreign steel object on the coffee table. Hmmm...Oh and there’s more... This one is a carburetor. I’m sure of that. There’s a whole box of stuff beside the couch full of greasy parts. Once my curiosity wears off and I get over my silly pride of being able to identify a couple of parts I look around, come to my senses and realize that my house is turning into a man cave! Ahhhh! Stomp, stomp, stomp...down the stairs and out the door. Where is my husband?! I see two legs sticking out from under a Dodge. I just wait for him to say something.“Hey, what’s up? “ He asks, totally oblivious to my displeasure. “I see you’ve been decorating.” I point out. He stares blankly, probably trying to figure out if this is good or bad. We both know what the answer is.“I think it’s nec-essary to remind you that the house is not a continuation for the overflow from the shop, which is really our garage. Garage, being the place where most families keep bicycles, strollers, seasonal outdoor equipment, etc. But noooo.... You call it the ‘shop’. Fine. Too bad for us that everything else then gets stored outside. Whatever. Your space, is your space. But get your truck doors out of my office, and don’t you even think about putting car parts above the fireplace again. I don’t care if you just cleaned them and think it’s a good place for them to dry. It’s NOT! Sigh... I’m surprised you don’t know that ‘normal people’ don’t keep a stack of tires in the foyer. Urgh! Why don’t you put some of your talent to work inside? The kids could use some shelves in their rooms, or you could fix the baby gate to separate the dog from the litter box; unless you like it when she sneaks into it for a midnight smorgasbord - eew!” I cross my arms and smirk. “I know you could custom build me a closet with a shoe rack like Goldie Hawn had in Overboard. That would make me happy! And if you took me shopping for shoes to fill it, I would never complain about anything again!” With that signature smirk he always pulls out to save himself, he responds, “Can I get that last statement in writing?” We both laugh, I get a slap on the ass and a “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. Have fun shopping.” It’s hard not to love the guy...

The first time I seen this 51 merc was at a Gene Winfield workshop put on by Top Ten Hotrods and Customs (covered in the next issue) about a month ago. This merc has a traditional paint scheme (can’t go wrong with flames) extreme chop with removable top, frenched everything, sweet custom grill, great stance and interior evil enough for the devil himself. It was only fitting enough that the photo shoot took place in a graveyard, a special thanks to the residents of Fort Langley for putting up with it.........

TechHow-to reupholster sun visors by Inc Ridez

1. Start by removing the sunvisors arm in this case you just slide out

2. Once the arms are removed start removing stitches in original visors, to remove stitches use a razor blade. Start at one end and go to the other removing all sticthes

3. Once sunvisors are bare you may have to cut off a 1/4” to the base of the sunvisor, (makes it easier to sew) take a ruler and mark out a 1/4” all around the base and proceed cutting with the jigsaw 4. Once the base is to size take the origi-

nal cover and a piece of template paper; remove all original fabric and foam.

5. Then trace the original frame to the template paper and cut out. Once a new foundation for the visors is made grab your new material and glue down

6. Once the new visor is glued to ma-terial, cut out (make sure to cut out atleast ½” bigger all aroundThen once material is glued, glue the access material and fold inward

7. Next place the base of the visor in the new visor cover and fold over

8. Begin to stitch closed

KRISTIAN,

www.fastfood.deviantart.com

BUILD; How long have you been at your craft?KRISTIAN; Long long time. I used to like that old Buck Rogers show and I remember drawing spaceship battles as far back as Grade 1. Used to get in trouble for that, wasn't learning the ABD's, 'spains a lot don it. B; What is your favorite style?K; Hard to say, I'm a bit of a sponge, if I like something I'll obsess over it till I feel like I've figured out how that person did what they did. But as for what I like, I don't know, that's one of those you know it when you see it sort of things. B; What is your favorite medium?K; Just a nice 2B mechanical pencil, a white eraser and I'm happy. I'm learning how to ink my stuff but the pen-cil will alway be my thing....wow, that sounded a bit off... B; Favorite peice of your own?K; I don't really have a favorite. Usually whatever pic-ture I've just finished is my favorite, until I start the next one. B; Yes or No: Male? No thanks. Female? Hell yes! Short Shorts? Nummy. Angelina Jolie? Duh. Hi-top sneakers? On it. Boats? Motor boats. White jeans? Really?...Really? B; Dream car?K; Easy. A 2010 Smart car...What, what'd I say? Ok, for real, probably a 67 mustang.

B; Hat or Hair?K;Gotta flont it while I still got it, unless I'm too lazy to comb it, then it's hat...Ok, it's usually hat. B; Whats next for your art?K; I have some offers to do some storyboards, some design work, even a comic, in the end it'll all come down to time. B; Whats on your tombstone?K; Don't believe her, she did this, somehow she did this.
