RAMBLING EIGHTS Caller: David Pearce

At Rambling Eights each week our dancers have been making a valiant effort to raise funds to bring a little extra Christmas cheer to children who are unfortunately in hospital for the festive season. We have so far exceeded our modest goal which we had based on previous year’s

fund raising efforts and expect to double or even triple with our last two dances for the year. On 27th November we are having a book stall, with members donating in pre-loved books, which will be available for purchase on the night at a fraction of the original price. Our final night for

the year will be our Christmas Dance on 4th December with our usual raffle prizes as well as our lucky number draw proceeds to add to our charity fund. The proceeds will be used to purchase

appropriate gifts for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. If you are joining us for the night, remember that every little bit will help to add something special for our future generations this

Christmas, as well as having a great night of dancing and fellowship. From David, Faith and all Rambling Eights club members we wish all our fellow dancers a merry and fulfilling festive season and hope everyone will keep safe and healthy to return

next year.

It is hard to realize that we are coming to the end of yet another year and be-fore you know it we will be ringing in 2016. Our club celebrated it's 25th Anni-versary in February and we were overjoyed by the number of dancers who attended. A great night to remember. Our other big event was running the 35th Qld State Convention.

For those who helped and supported this three day epic in September, once more we thank you. We are holding our Christmas dance on Tuesday 1st December and this will be the last dance meet for this year. All dancers are very welcome to come and join us. Admission is a gold coin and we will run two raffles. Club dance nights resume in 2016 on Tuesday 2nd February for members followed by the Beginners Night on the 9th February. Beginners will have free admission for the first three nights - 9th 16th and 23rd. May we take this opportunity to send best wishes to all our square dancing friends for a very Happy Christmas, Good Will and Peace on Earth. See you all in 2016. Yvonne - Secretary.

Rambling Eights on the move again.

After just settling into our new hall at Holland Park West we find we have to change our dance venue again. We became aware mid-way through October that the Lynndon Bowls Club was seeking to sell the premises. A developer has signed a contract and all existing activities will cease before Christmas. We have secured an arrangement to move to Holland Park Bowls Club in Abbotsleigh Rd, Holland Park. This club is less than 2 km from the Lynndon Bowls. Our Christmas break up party will remain at Lynndon Bowls then all dancing 2016 will take place in the new hall. The new hall is slightly larger than the old one and has some advantages which we believe will contribute to a comfortable dancing experience.

WE NEED TO TELL PEOPLE!

As the decision was made quickly, we would like to let as many dancers know as we can. Thank You.




Cairns City Square Dance Club

Club Members have settled nicely into our new venue and enjoying better facilities.

We are able to store most of the Club’s equipment there as well which we are most

grateful to St Margaret’s church for.

Our members have increased with new members and now dance Mainstream and Easy

Plus.

It is nice to have Jenny back dancing with us after her being unwell.

Graham recovered so well from his hip operation he is having the other one operated

on later this month. We have not seen much of Margaret and him so hopefully next

year they will be back to their fortnightly visits.

As this is the last report for 2015, I behalf of Cairns City Squares I wish all friends

and members of other clubs as well as dancers who have visited the Club this year a

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

That is all our news for this month until my next report in 2016.

STEPPING OUT WITH CLOGGING

Memories are made of this: great, caring friends, laughter and fun, wonderful music,

passion for our pastime, enthusiasm for dancing, all bonding the Clogging family to-

gether.

So…. reluctantly we say a fond goodbye to two-0-one-five during which we gathered

for our regular Club dances; Clogging Camps AKA Aussie Clog and Storm King; the

ACA National Clogging Convention, held this year in Gosford; special Club events

e.g. Birthday celebrations and Christmas Parties, and including the Golden Oldies Fun

Day; and social get-togethers with friends we’ve made through Clogging. Ahhh! The

good times.

BUT next year will undoubtedly produce more of the same, maybe even bigger and

better than this year (will our tootsies love it? Sure will).

May I suggest that in the ‘off season’ you spare some thought for next year’s special

happenings- love to see you all there.

So please check your Club’s start-up date for 2016 (plus any other venues where you

take part in Clogging), and BRING A FRIEND so they can see what Clogging is all

about and get keen to give it a try.

Several of our dancers have moved interstate this year, including Chris Anderson from

Cairns to Tasmania, and Linda Riddell who will journey from Brisbane to set up resi-

dence in Gosford. But guaranteed they will still keep Clogging, and we look forward

to catching up with them at the next National Clogging Convention, if not before. THANK YOU sincerely to the Banana Bender’s Bugle ever-helpful Editor and

Organiser Lynette MacPherson; to all of those who have passed on news bits for

inclusion, plus the Bugle’s readers who have kindly expressed their thanks for this

2016 Caller / Cuer Conference Calling Queensland Callers, Trainees and would like to be Callers.

Did you know that the Australian Callers Federation (ACF) is hosting a Caller Cuer Confer-ence prior to the National Convention? Paul Bristow (UK), Ken Ritucci (USA) and Steve Turner (Australia) will be featured presenters.

Qld. Square Dance Society is offering subsidies to callers/cuers who are the listed as Call-er/Cuer for Society Affiliated clubs e.g. those that are listed on the club's affiliation form are eligible to receive $ 50.00 for full time callers and $ 30.00 for Trainee callers. Application forms are available from the Square Dancing Society, the QCA, or from the conference website: http://acfcallercuerconference2016.weebly.com To apply for this subsidy the caller is asked to forward to Society Secretary their receipt for payment to register to attend the Caller Conference. The Secretary will then for-ward a letter either advising of the acceptance or otherwise. If accepted then the letter will state required details e.g. their bank account so that the Treasurer can transfer the money.
