The Flyers selected Laughton in the first round ( 20th overall)of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He has 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 32 games for Oshawa of the OHL this season.  The Flyers on Tuesday named Claude Giroux the 19th captain in franchise history. Giroux, 25 (1/12/1988), is entering his fifth fullseason with the Flyers, and also played two games during the 2007-08 season. He is coming off one of the best individual seasons fora Flyer in the last 15 years. Giroux posted 28 goals and 65 assists for 93 points last season, the most points by a Flyer since EricLindros had 93 points in 1998-99 and the most assists by a Flyer since Lindros posted 68 in 1995-96. It was the 9th-best regularseason assist total in Flyers history. Giroux became just the fourth Flyer ever to record 50 or more assists in consecutive seasons, joining Bobby Clarke (8 seasons, 1972-1980), Brian Propp (3 seasons, 1983-86) and Mark Recchi (2 seasons twice). third in the NHL in scoring and led the league in power play scoring with 38 points (6G, 32A).   Giroux followed up with an equally stellarpostseason, recording eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 12 playoff games. Fourteen of those points came in the EasternConference Quarterfinals against Pittsburgh, which was the second-highest point total in a playoff series in franchise history. Girouxwas selected by the Flyers in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. In 285 career games, Giroux has 78 goals and165 assists for 243 points.  The Flyers have several new faces on their roster from a year ago –four players who are with the team for the first time (Kurtis Foster,Scott Laughton, Luke Schenn and Bruno Gervais) and two players that have returned after time away –Michael Leighton, whoplayed last year with Adirondack, and Ruslan Fedotenko.  Here’s a summary of Flyers transactions in the 2012 offseason:  June 22 : Traded G Sergei Bobrovsky to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2nd round pick, a 4th round pick, and a 2013 4th roundpick. June 22-23: Selected seven players at the 20012 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh: C Scott Laughton (1st round, 20th overall), GAnthony Stolarz (2nd round, 45th overall), D Shayne Gostisbehere (3rd round, 78th overall), D Fredric Larsson (4th round, 111th

overall), LW Taylor Leier (4th round, 117th overall), D Reece Willcox (5th round, 141st overall), and D Valeri Vasiliev (7th round, 201st overall).  June 23: Traded LW James van Riemsdyk to the Toronto Maple Leafs for D Luke Schenn. July 1: Signed G Michael Leighton to a contract extension. July 3: Signed free agents LW Ruslan Fedotenko and D Bruno Gervais to contracts. July 26: Signed RW Jakub Voracek to a contract extension. Other Flyers to depart via free agency included RW Jaromir Jagr and D Matt Carle. Ruslan Fedotenko played yesterday in first game in a Flyers uniform since April 26, 2002, when the Flyers had their 2002 playoff runended in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals vs. Ottawa. Fedotenko departed later that summer in a trade to Tampa Baythat landed the Flyers the Lightning’s first-round draft pick in 2002, which was used to select Joni Pitkanen. Fedotenko has played 664NHL games since then and has won two Stanley Cups, with Tampa (2004) and Pittsburgh (2009). That’s the longest of any playerbesides VInny Prospal’s 715 games between Orange and Black tours. The Flyers are glad he’s back in orange and black –Fedotenkohas scored more goals against the Flyers (16) than he has against any other NHL team, and has more points against them (28) thanany other NHL team except Winnipeg/Atlanta (29).  Max Talbot and Bruno Gervais are playing together as pros for the first time, but it’s certainly not the first time they’ve playedtogether. The pair grew up together in Quebec and played on the same team when they were 11 years old, and have been best friendsever since. Gervais signed as a free agent with the Flyers last summer, while Talbot came the summer before. For the last two years,Talbot and Gervais have teamed up to host a charity golf tournament back home in Quebec, Omnium Gervais-Talbot (Gervais-TalbotOpen).
