During 1950-53, Dr. Budwig discovered new ways of fat analysis through the development of Paper Chromatography of fats. This meant that for the first time fats, fatty acids and lipoproteins could be detected directly even in the smallest proportions. With this technique she proved that electron rich highly unsaturated Linoleic and Linolenic fatty acids are the undiscovered decisive fats in respiratory enzyme function that Otto Warburg had been unable to find. She studied the electromotoric function of pi-electrons of the linolenic acid in the cell membranes. This immediately caused a furor. Cancer problem was brought in. Hydrogenated fats, which includes all Trans fatty acids proved to be respiratory poisons. Dr. Budwig found that the blood of seriously ill cancer patients was deficient in these unsaturated omega-3 fats, lipoproteins, phosphatides, and hemoglobin. In addition, she also noted that cancer patients had a strange greenish-yellow substance in their blood. Thus Budwig came up with a treatment program based on two simple ingredients: flax oil and cottage cheese, often found in every kitchen. Then she decided to go for human trials and started to give flax oil and cottage cheese to several hundred cancer patients in Munster. After just three months, her patients began to improve in health and strength, tumors gradually receded and at the same time the nutrients began to rise. Thus Budwig had found a cure for cancer. It was a great victory and first milestone in the battle against cancer. Her treatment protocol is based on the consumption of flax seed oil with low fat cottage cheese, raw organic diet, mild exercise, and the healing powers of the sun. She treated approx. 2500 cancer patients during a 50 year period with this protocol up to 2002 with over 90% documented success. She had been nominated 7 times for Nobel Prize but with a condition that she will also use chemo and radio. They did not want to collapse this 200 billion dollar business over night.
