- Pitstone features one of the oldest postmills in Britain. The exact date the mill wasbuilt is unknown but it has been noted thatit was refurbished in 1697. The mill, aGrade II listed windmill, produced flourfrom grain grown in nearby villages whichprovided residents with a profitableincome. In 1924, despite being in a terriblestate of disrepair following a fierce gale,the mill was sold to the Hawkins Family.Unable to save the mill, the Hawkinsdonated it to The National Trust in 1937.The mill has since then been restored andis maintained on an annual basis.
