Executive Director’s LetterDear Bourbonnais Township Park District residents: Aswesaygoodbyetosummer,wegetreadytosayhellotothemostexcitingtimeoftheyearattheparkdistrict.PerryFarminthefallisanexcitingplacetobe.Thetreesarechangingcolors,thereisabrisknipintheair,scarecrowsappearonourfenceline,andtheHeadlessHorsemanofSleepyHollowlurkssomewherenearby!IlovelookingoutmyofficewindowhereatthePerryFarmhousetoseetheyearlytransformationofthefarm.

Speakingoftransformations,therearemanyoccurringattheparkdistrictandIcouldnotbemoreexcited.ThispastspringwelaunchedonlineregistrationforprogramsandthenextstepistheabilitytopurchaseSleepyHollowticketsonline.Wealsolaunchedournewwebsiteandwillcontinuetoevolveitforeaseofuseforourpatrons.Wearealsoupgradingthelookofourprogrambook.Watchformorechangesinthecomingyearandpleaseletusknowanysuggestionsyoumayhave.Wenowhavegiftcardsavailabletopurchaseatanyofourfacilitiesthatwillallowthe“giftofrecreation”tobegivenyearround.Ifyouhavenot“liked”ourFacebookpage,pleasedo!Itisaneasywaytostayintheloopofallspecialeventsandcoolprogramming.

WearecurrentlyworkingonupgradingtheWillowhavenInterpretativeCenterpropertyatWhisperingWillowsParkaswehavejustcompletedthemasterplan.WewillbeseekinganOSLADgrant(OpenSpacesLandAcquisitionDevelopment)throughtheIllinoisDepartmentofNaturalResourcestohelpusfundthefirstphaseoftheproject.Weplantoaddanatureplayarea,anamphitheater,upgradethenaturecenter,addalargepavilion,pavethewalkingtrails,andadda4acredogpark.Theseimprovementswillhelpourresidentsenjoythenaturehavenwehavecreatedjustafewmilesfromthehustleandbustleofoursmallcity.Weliketothinkofitasapeacefuloasisinourtown.

ExplorationStationwillbeshutdownfromAugust25thtoSeptember16thfortheannualcleaningandupgradingtothefacility.ThisyearweareexcitedtoannouncethenewexhibitUp,Up&Awaythatwillbeinstalledduringthistime.ItisbeingmadepossiblepartiallybyagrantfromtheCommunityFoundationofKankakeeRiverValley.Thisnewexhibitwillintroduceairandwindenergytochildreninanengagingwaythatencouragesexplorationanddiscovery.Astheyexperiment,childrenwilldevelopknowledgeaboutthepowerofmovingairandpneumaticsandgaincriticalpre-dispositionsabouttheimportanceandpowerofairintheirworld.Thiseducatesourfuturegenerationabouttheimportanceofwindenergyaswindturbineshelppowerourcitiesandcleanairenablesustoliveandgrow.Makeplanstobringthefamilytothisexcitingnewexhibit.

Lookforexcitingadditionstoour2ndannualScarecrowContestthisyear!ThecommunitylovedthescarecrowsonthefencelastyearasitseemedtobringeveryonetogetherintheheartofourcityhereatPerryFarm.Wewillcontinuethecontestwithcelebrityjudgesandwehaveaddedapeople’schoicecategory.OnSaturdaymorning,September27th,wewillhostaScarecrowFestivalthatincludespeople’schoicevoting.Everyonewillhavetheopportunitytovotefortheirpersonalfavoritefor$1.00.OctoberisbreastcancerawarenessmonthsoallproceedswillgotoAGAPE-tohelpsupporttheBreastCancerResearchattheBreastCenteratPresenceSt.Mary’s.Theyareourheadlinesponsorthisyear.Wehaveafunmorningplannedwithscarecrows,breakfastandsomelocalmusic.Markyourcalendarsnow!

Alsointhefallisthereturnofoureverpopularevent“ANightinSleepyHollow.”Wewillcontinueour4-yearpartnershipwithActingOutTheatreCo.astheybringtheLegendofSleepyHollowtolifewiththeirtalentedactorsinthe1832barn.YouwillbetransportedbackintimebeginningwithcampfirestorytellersandendingwithahayrideintheHollowtoencountertheHeadlessHorsemanatthefatefulbridge.WearealsoexpandingthewildlysuccessfulSleepyHollowHauntedTrail.TheVillagewillagainbefilledwithroamingmonsters,gamesandactivities.Also,comingupinlatefallandearlywinterisour4thAnnualTurkeyTrotandour2ndAnnualFrostyExpress.Thereisnotabettertimetobepartofthiscommunity.Wetakeourmissionveryseriouslyofenrichingthequalityoflifeforourresidents.

3-4 year old programThe3-4thematicbasedprogramisdesignedforoneofachild’sfirstexperiencesina“school”setting.Ourprogramwillstresssocialization,cooperativeplay,finemotorskills,sharingandfollowingdirections,andthebeginningsofletterandnamerecognition.Children must be 3 by September 1, 2014.

4-5 year old programThe4-5phonicsbasedcurriculumwillhelpdeveloptheacademicandsocialskillsneededforenteringkindergarteninareaschooldistricts.Ourprogramwillstressthedevelopmentofindependenceandacademicskillsthroughlearningcenters,structuredactivities,socialization,cooperativeplayanddramaticplayandsharing.Children must be 4 by September 1, 2014.


EarlyLearningStation

Early Learning StationPreschool ProgramsThe Early Learning Station program promotes an environment that fosters critical thinking, problem solving skills, and social development taught through alphabet and thematic units. The experiences are both educational and recreational, which aid in social, physical, intellectual and emotional growth. Qualified experienced teachers instruct the programs. Illinois Early Learning Standards are applied to curriculum lessons. Sign up early, classes are limited to allow for a low student-teacher ratio. Children must be toilet independent prior to the first day of class. Sessions are divided according to age.

A specially designed hands - on curriculum includes: • Phonics & Reading • Art & Craft Projects • Math & Science Projects • Educational Field Trips • Computer Centers • Music & Movement

Each preschool staff member has been carefully selected based on their: qualifications, experience and personality. We are very proud of our wonderful staff!
