<ul><li><p> 2018/2019 </p><p>BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in </p><p>Engineering </p><p>Why should I study this course? </p><p>This is an exciting course that gives you the chance to learn how to use some of the skills that are needed by engineers. Throughout your work on the qualification you will learn and experience a wide range of exciting and highly-skilled practical processes and theory work. You will also learn important workplace skills like interpreting Engineering information correctly, so that you will be able to read design specifications in a workplace context. The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma course is an ideal stepping stone to a university course in Engineering or going straight into an exciting and financially rewarding career. </p><p>What will I study? </p><p>Units (Year One): </p><p>The units of this course are to include: </p><p>Engineering Principles </p><p> Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely </p><p> Product Design and Manufacture </p><p>Units (Year Two): </p><p>The second year units are likely to include: </p><p> Commercial and Quality Principles </p><p> Computer Aided Design </p><p> Electronic Devices and Circuits </p><p>What are the entry requirements? </p><p>4 A*-C grades at GCSE including a minimum </p><p>of grade 5/C in GCSE Mathematics and a </p><p>grade C in GCSE Science (or equivalent L2 </p><p>Science course) and a minimum of grade 4/D </p><p>in GCSE English Language. </p><p>If you are interested in joining the College we will </p><p>arrange a meeting with an experienced subject </p><p>counsellor who will help you to choose courses </p><p>that best suit your ambitions and achievements. </p><p>All entry requirement details are correct at the </p><p>time of publication, September 2017, however, </p><p>the College may need to make some changes by </p><p>September 2018 in the light of student demand, </p><p>staff availability and external factors beyond the </p><p>College's control. </p><p>How is the course assessed? </p><p>Most of the course is assessed in the classroom by the teacher. The Engineering Principles unit is an externally assessed exam </p><p>What will this course prepare me for? </p><p>In East Yorkshire, Engineering is the biggest employment sector and it is growing all of the time. Some huge contracts have been awarded to multinational companies in the area and these have created lots of job opportunities. This course will provide you with an ideal qualification to progress into these jobs, or onto an Engineering course at university. </p><p>Private Study </p><p>The BTEC Engineering course is one where the work you do in the Workshop and in the Classroom is continually assessed. We will ask you to do private study if you have got behind with work or there are deadlines that you need to meet it depends on the stage of the course and how close you are to meeting Merit and Distinction requirements! </p><p>What materials will I need to provide? </p><p>Due to the workshop element of the course all students may need to have a set of overalls and a pair of steel toe-cap boots. These can be loaned from the engineering department or they could be purchased before you start the course. </p><p>Examination Board </p><p>Edexcel </p><p>What skills do I need? </p><p> Good workplace habits our expectations of punctuality and attendance are high, just like an employers would be. </p><p> A good awareness of working safely in a workshop environment. </p><p> A good determination to succeed and a good attention to detail after all, youll be expected to produce high quality work consistently! </p><p>How will I be taught? </p><p>A wide variety of teaching techniques will be used. It definitely wont be a case of just watching...youll soon be working on all of the equipment and be given tips on how to use it correctly and without any mistakes. You will also be taught in classroom situations again with real life problems to make the work relevant to what happens in employment. You will also be </p><p>using industry standard CAD software which is recommended by the majority of engineering companies. One thing youll always be able to say about the teaching it will always be useful to working in Engineering once you leave College! </p><p>BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma is for </p><p>you if: </p><p> want to progress to university or if you </p><p>want to work in an industry where there are a </p><p>wide range of job opportunities available and </p><p>there is the possibility of developing a career.
