    Theprojectbrief

    This project is designed to develop your skills as an integral member of a musical ensemble thatwill promote and plan a number of public performances. It will ask you to consider structuredrehearsals and to reflect upon progress made. You will assess appropriateness of a range ofvenues, and the technical logistics associated with live performance. Ultimately you will assessthe effectiveness of both the process and performance.

    Scenario You are a member of a function band that has decided to hold a number of charity events. Theseevents will also act as a showcase for your ensembles repertoire. The band must decideappropriate material, assess and eventually choose performance venues, plan and promote theevents, and reflect upon he process over a series of band meetings.

    As a member of an ensemble you must plan at least two public performances (one ofwhich will be for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity), selecting appropriate material,and after researching and evaluating a number of music venues, choose the two thatyou feel would be most appropriate.Once you have selected what pieces you are to play, you must develop theappropriate rehearsal strategies required for shows of this scale. You will need a

    good understanding of the different roles and responsibilities of those who work in thelive music industry to effectively contribute to the planning and promotion of your ownshows. You will keep a log of the process.

    The shows demand a series of structured rehearsals under musical direction. Duringthis rehearsal stage of the process you must allow for a series of group sessions forreflection. These sessions will allow you to assess the effectiveness of the rehearsalsessions themselves, the direction and guidance you are being shown, and thechoice of repertoire.

    A log of this process must show that you can explain what resources and accessoriesare required not only for the show, but also for the maintenance of equipment. Yourlog must also assess health and safety in rehearsal and performance.

    The organisation of the event will require reliability and a professional focus. Youmust perform in a number of performances, showing a high level of professionalism

    throughout. The performances must demonstrate that you can show a well-rehearsedlevel of musicality, whilst keeping appropriate self-presentation.
