Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game first unleashed on the

world back in 1993. Since then it’s seen many expansions that feature new cards and often alter the way the game is played. With official tournaments and millions of players around the globe, MTG is insanely popular. The game is played by two or more players, with each player drawing cards from a random or constructed deck. SBK 2011 boasts that it will be “the ultimate bike racing game.” The

developers hope to set a new standard in the genre, with a plethora of graphical and gameplay improvements over its predecessor SBK X. Featuring a new artistic direction and an updated driving model, the game is also set to offer a great improvement in terms of presentation. All the riders and tracks from this year’s Supersport World Championship Season will appear in the game’s roster, as will all the tracks and riders from the 2010 Supersport World Championship Season. The teams and riders of the 2010 season of the European Superstock championship will also feature in SBK 2011.

The game utilises technology called EMotion FX Extended, which supposedly brings “the in-game animation quality and realism to the next level.” The user interface is being overhauled to make the entire experience more pleasant and easy to use. So there you have it – there will be bikes, there will be tracks and there will be riders. If that’s not enough to get Superbike enthusiasts all hot and bothered, nothing will.

Cole MacGrath, PlayStation’s very own electrifying superhero, returns in

the sequel to 2009’s critically acclaimed Infamous. We’re joining Cole on an all-new adventure in the city of New Marais - a city inspired by New Orleans. Melee combat is being refined to be smoother and more involving. Sucker Punch is also expanding on the open-world aspects of the game by making New Marais more reactive to Cole’s presence. The moral element will return, asking you to make tough decisions throughout the new storyline.

In a creative collaboration between two of gaming’s great developers, Shadows

of the Damned has players following the exploits of Garcia Hotspur, a demon hunter who goes through hell (literally) to save his true love. Along the way he battles hell’s forces, shooting his way through innumerable horrors in the name of love.

From the minds of Goichi Suda (perhaps better known as Suda51, whose works include titles like No More Heroes and Killer7) and Shinji Mikami (creator of Resident Evil, Vanquish and Dino Crisis), Shadows of the Damned looks to combine Suda’s “punk rock” edge with Mikami’s penchant for “psychological action thrillers” to create something entirely unique in visual style, gameplay and design. Another notable name working on this game is Akira Yamaoka, sound designer for Konami’s Silent Hill series, who is working as sound designer on Shadows of the Damned.

With all these famed developers toiling away on the game, all signs point towards Shadows of the Damned providing players with a third-person shooter experience (with a bit of survival horror thrown in for good measure) unlike any other.

GLaDOS is still alive! The sequel to 2007’s massively popular and

critically acclaimed puzzler Portal looks to offer up more of the same infuriatingly addictive puzzle/platforming gameplay that gamers fell so madly in love with, this time with a slew of new features thrown in to test your brain’s might.

The player is once again cast as Chell, who awakes after a few hundred years worth of stasis to find that GLaDOS and the Aperture Science facility have fallen into disrepair. After inadvertently waking GLaDOS, the malicious AI once again puts Chell through a series of gruelling tests while simultaneously rebuilding the facility.

Brink is set in a floating city known as The Ark - a former utopia turned

warzone as the Ark’s security forces battle resistance members after civil war breaks out due to a severe lack of resources. The Ark was created to be the perfect city, a safe haven built for a population of 5 000 people hoping to escape a massive flood that has engulfed the Earth. However, refugees flocked to The Ark in large numbers, resulting in the population growing to over 50 000 people. Resources quickly became scarce, resulting in the perfect excuse for some class-based multiplayer mayhem.

Brink is designed to seamlessly blend its single-player experience with online play by allowing friends to join you in cooperative and competitive online gaming. Players can customise their characters, weapons and abilities by earning experience points (which you’ll acquire whether you’re playing solo or online). The game also boasts an interesting take on environment navigation with its SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) System. This system allows for complex manoeuvring through the environment without a million button presses. The game instead tries to anticipate your intended movement and carry it out automatically without complex input.

The terror continues with F.E.A.R. 3, home of slow-mo infused action and

terrifying little girls/pregnant ladies that would like nothing better than to scare your face off. The Point Man (protagonist of the original F.E.A.R.) returns - and this time he’s not alone. Cooperative play makes its series debut, with players able to take control of either the Point Man or his new sidekick, Paxton Fettel (fans of the series will recognise him as the antagonist from the original game).

Each character has a unique style of play. The Point Man will bring back the familiar, chaotic FPS action that the series was built on, with his ability to slow time returning to make killing enemies an intensely cinematic undertaking. Fettel changes things up a bit by allowing players to assist the Point Man using supernatural powers like telekinesis, stun and possession and more. There’s a new developer at the helm and they promise that this third title is packed with more scares than ever before. A new cover system is looking to add an extra layer of depth to traditional F.E.A.R. combat.

Geralt of Rivia is back in the sequel to The Witcher, 2007’s excellent

Dirt returns for another round of frantic off-road racing in the series’

third instalment. The new gymkhana game mode hopes to push your abilities to their limit. Gymkhana is a freestyle driving showpiece, requiring pinpoint car control as drivers pull off stunts in heavily modified rally cars. Push your chosen car as far as it can go in specially built arenas littered with obstacles and huge jumps. This mode will also teach you some of the skills required for the other game modes - but the Gymkhana mode is all about stylish driving. Execute combos to earn style points, and then publish videos of your runs directly to YouTube. You can also compete against friends in split-screen or online multiplayer.

More cars, more locations and more events will all be a part of the Dirt 3 experience. It boasts more than double the number of tracks available in its predecessor. Weather and damage effects alter the outcome of every event. Live the virtual life of a professional driver as you blaze your way through routes throughout Africa, Europe and the US when the game hits shelves this May.

Set in “a perfectly recreated Los Angeles” in the year 1947, L.A. Noire

is heavily inspired by the plot style and visual elements of film noir: stylistic films from the 1940s and 1950s that focussed on themes like crime, sex and questionable morals. Its distinctive colouring style, appropriately jazzy soundtrack and thematically dark plot elements are just part of what make L.A. Noire enticing. MotionScan technology has been implemented in the game, where real-life actors are recorded by 32 surrounding cameras to capture facial expressions from every angle. The result has to be seen to be believed, as characters’ faces come to life in ways never before seen in a video game.

In terms of gameplay, expect to solve murder mysteries, engage in frantic third-person shooter action and partake of some high-speed car chases in a stunningly realised open-world environment. Players take on the role of detective Cole Phelps as they collect clues, interrogate suspects and learn to tell who’s lying and who’s not in pursuit of justice in the seedy underworld of 1947 Los Angeles.

create an account.
