1 Time. 2 Date.The time and date can be setmanually, see page 13. Alternatively,if you have subscribed to a CallerDisplay Service, the first call youreceive will automatically update thetime and date. The time and date willalso be displayed in the calls list toindicate when each call was received.
3 Battery low indicator.This will be displayed to indicatewhen the battery is low and needsreplacing.
4 Ringer Off.This will be displayed to remind youthe ringer is set to off.
5 Alarm set.5 This will be displayed when the alarm
is set to ON.
6 Call Waiting.This will flash to indicate you have a caller waiting. This will also bedisplayed in the calls list to indicatethe entry was a waiting caller.

IntroductionYour Decor 310 has been designed for ease of use and made to thehigh standards set by BT. You can expect your Decor 310 to giveyou many years of trouble-free service.
Please read the instructions carefullybefore use and keep this User Guidefor future reference.
Safety information
GeneralSimply clean your Decor 310 with a damp(not wet) cloth, or an antistatic wipe. Never use household polish as this maydamage the product. Never use a dry cloth as this may causestatic shock.Do not open the Decor 310. This couldexpose you to high voltages or otherrisks.Never dispose of batteries in a fire.There is a serious risk of explosionand/or the release of highly toxicchemicals.
EnvironmentalDo not expose to direct sunlight.We recommend that you do not place the product on antique/veneered woodto avoid damage. Do not stand your product on carpets orother surfaces which generate fibres, orplace it in locations preventing free flowof air over its surfaces.Do not submerge any part of your productin water and do not use it in damp orhumid conditions, such as in bathrooms.Do not expose your product to fire,explosive or other hazardous conditions.

Setting up
Plan the location of yourDecor 310
Situate your Decor 310 close enough to a phone socket so that the line cordwill reach.
You can wall mount your Decor 310, formore information see page 25.
Your Decor 310 is now ready for use.
2 Plug your Decor 310 intothe telephone socket
Please note you will require1xPP3 9Voltbattery. This is not included.
Lift the battery cover and insert thebattery as shown.

Battery Low Warning
The battery low icon is displayedwhen the battery is nearing the end ofits useful life or when the batteries arecompletely flat.
Note
You will still be able to make andreceive calls via the handset without a battery fitted. However, the fullfeatures of your Decor 310 will not beavailable.

Using the telephone
To make a call
Press buttons in the order shown
Lift the handset and wait forthe dial tone.
Dial the telephone number.
The icon will be shown onthe display to indicate that thephone is in use.
Or
Preparatory dialling.
Dial the telephone number.
It is shown on the display butnot dialled.
Press the DIAL button. Thenumber will be dialledautomatically using handsfree.
If you wish to speak to yourcaller privately you can pick upthe handset at any time.
To end a call
Replace the handset.
To receive a call
When the telephone rings, thecall indicator light will flash toindicate that there is anincoming call. Simply pick upthe handset.
Call timer
Your Decor 310 automatically times theduration of all outgoing and incomingexternal calls. The call duration will beshown both during the call and for afew seconds after it is completed.

If you enter any digitsincorrectly, use the LEFT orRIGHT arrow button to move to the digit and press the SECRECY/CLEAR buttonto delete.

To redial the last numbercalled
Lift the handset.
Press the REDIAL button. The last number called isdialled automatically.
If the REDIAL button ispressed when the handset isdown, the display will showthe number and REDIAL.
Press the DIAL button and thenumber will be dialledautomatically using handsfree.
To switch secrecy on and off
During a call press and releasethe SECRECY button.
Your caller will be put on holdand both you and the callerwill hear music until theSECRECY button is pressedagain.
You can now talk to someonein the room without yourcaller hearing you. The displaywill flash SECRECY to indicatethat secrecy is on.
Press and release theSECRECY button to return toyour caller.

When on a call you can talk to someonein the same room, without your callerhearing.

To make a handsfree call
Press the HANDSFREE button.The handsfree light will comeon and HANDSFREE will bedisplayed for 5 seconds. Youwill hear the dial tone.
Dial the telephone number.
To end your call, press theHANDSFREE button.
You can pick up the handset at any time if you wish to speakto your caller privately.
Handsfree talking
The handsfree feature allows you touse the phone without picking up thehandset, giving you more freedomwhen you are speaking on the phone.You can hear the caller’s voice throughthe in-built speaker.
You can also switch to handsfree modeduring a call by pressing theHANDSFREE button and replacing thehandset.

To change the volume whenusing handsfree
You can adjust the speakervolume when you are on ahandsfree call.
Press the VOLUME button.The volume level will be shownon the display VOLUME .
There are 5 levels to choosefrom. The display will showthe volume level as you adjustit. The selected volume levelwill remain until changed.
To receive a call in handsfreemode
Press the HANDSFREE buttonwhen the phone rings.

You may need to use theRECALL button if you areconnected to a switchboard/PBX (Private BranchExchange), contact your PBXsupplier for further information.The RECALL button is alsoused for BT Select Services.

Entering names:
Use the keypad letters to enter names. To move to thenext character press theRIGHT arrow button once.(Maximum 15 characters.)
For example, if you wish tostore the name TOM:
To enter the letter T, press the8 button once.
Press the RIGHT arrow button.
To enter the letter O, press the6 button three times.
Press the RIGHT arrow button.
To enter the letter M, press the6 button once.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the entry.
The display will show ENTERNUMBER.
Enter the telephone numberyou want to store. (Maximum18 digits.)

To store a name and numberin the directory
Press the ENTER button.
The display will show ADD ENTRY, press the ENTERbutton again.
The display will show how manyentries are stored already, e.g.ENTRIES: 10.
The display will then showENTER NAME, followed by aflashing cursor.
Enter the name using theletters on the keypad.
Note
If the directory is full, thedisplay will show MEMORYFULL.
Name and numberdirectory
You can store up to 30 of your mostfrequently used names and numbers inthe directory.
You can also select a group under whichyou want to store the number, e.g.NORMAL, FAMILY, FRIENDS or VIP.You can then select a different ring tonefor each group, see ‘To set the ringer tone’,page 12.
Note
If you enter a character ordigit incorrectly you can usethe LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to move the cursor tothe character and delete it bypressing the CLEAR button.
Note
The display will show END OF LIST
if you reach the end of the directory.
You can exit the directory and returnto the normal display by pressing theEXIT button at any time.

Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to select the ringer tonegroup you wish to store yourentry in (NORMAL, FAMILY,FRIENDS or VIP.)
Press the ENTER button toconfirm. The display will showSAVED and you will hear aconfirmation tone.
The display will show ADDENTRY.

To edit directory names andnumbers
Press the DIRECTORY button.
Use the UP or DOWN arrowbutton to find the entry youwant to edit.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm.
Use the UP, DOWN, LEFT orRIGHT arrow buttons to moveto the digits or letters youwant to edit. The selected digitor character will flash.
Use the CLEAR button todelete numbers or letters andenter new ones using thenumbers/letters on the keypad.
Press the ENTER button tostore the new entry.
Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to select the ringer tonegroup, e.g. NORMAL,FAMILY, FRIENDS or VIP.
Press the ENTER button. The display will show SAVEDand you will hear a confirmationtone.

To set the ringer tone
There are 4 ringer tones tochoose from: TYPE 1-4. Thedefault setting is TYPE 1.
You can select a different ringtone for each group in yourdirectory so you will have anindication of who is calling youwhen the phone rings, e.g.NORMAL, FRIEND, FAMILYor VIP.
Press the MENU button.
Use the DOWN arrow buttonto scroll to RINGER TYPE.
Press the ENTER button. Thedisplay will show the ring groupand tone, e.g: NORMAL TYPE
1. You will hear a sample tone.
Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to select the requiredtone for the ringer groupdisplayed. (TYPE 1-4). You willhear a sample tone.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the tone you want.
The display will show SAVEDand you will hear a confirmationtone.
The display will show the next caller group, e.g: FRIENDTYPE 2.
Repeat these instructions to setthe ring tones for the remainingcaller groups.

To adjust the ringer volume
There are 3 volume levels tochoose from: HIGH, LOW orOFF. The default setting isHIGH.
Press the MENU button.
Use the DOWN arrow buttonto scroll to RINGER LEVEL.
Press the ENTER button. Thedisplay will show HIGH, LOW,OFF and the current settingwill flash.
Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to select the requiredlevel.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm. The display will showSAVED and you will hear aconfirmation tone.
Press the EXIT button toreturn to the normal display.
Note
If the ringer is set to OFF the display will show RINGEROFF. The call indicator lightwill still flash to indicatesomeone is calling you.

Alarm clock
You can use your Decor 310 telephoneas an alarm clock. You must set the dateand time before the alarm will work.
To set the date and time
Press the MENU button.
Use the DOWN arrow buttonto scroll to SET DATE TIME.
Press the ENTER button.ENTER HOUR will be displayedand the hour digits will flash.
Enter the hour (12 hour clock).
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the entry. ENTERMINUTE will be displayed andthe minute digits will flash.
Enter the minutes.
Follow these instructions forchanging any of the otherringer group names.
To change the name of aringer group
You may wish to change thenames of the ringer groups, forexample you may want to nameone of them WORK if youwork from home. (Maximum 7 characters.)
Press the MENU button.
Use the DOWN arrow buttonto scroll to RINGER TYPE.
Press the ENTER button.
Press the UP or DOWN arrowbuttons to select the groupname you wish to change.
Press and hold the CLEARbutton for 6 seconds. Theselected group name is deleted.
Enter a new name using theletters on the keypad.
Press the ENTER button twice.
The display will show SAVEDand you will hear a confirmationtone.

Press the EXIT button at anytime to return to the normaldisplay.
Note
You can change the name of a ringergroup if you wish, see below.
Note

Press the MENU button.
Use the DOWN arrow buttonto scroll to SET ALARM.
Press the ENTER button. The display will show ALARMON OFF.
Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to select either ON orOFF.
If you select OFF, the displaywill flash OFF. Press theENTER button to confirm.The display will show SAVED.
If you select ON, press theENTER button. ENTER HOUR
will be displayed and the hourdigits will flash.
Enter the hour (12 hour clock).
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the entry. ENTERMINUTE will be displayed andthe minute digits will flash.
Enter the minutes.
Note
If the alarm setting iscurrently ON, the alarm timeset will be displayed and ONwill flash.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the entry. The displaywill flash AM or PM.
Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrowbutton to select either AM or PM.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the entry. ENTER DAY
will be displayed and the daydigits will flash.
Enter the day, e.g. 20 for the20th.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm the entry. ENTERMONTH will be displayed andthe month digits will flash.
Enter the month, e.g. 12 forDecember.
Press the ENTER button toconfirm. The display will showSAVED and you will hear aconfirmation tone.
Press the EXIT button toreturn to the normal display.

Caller Display
IMPORTANT
To enable your Decor 310 to displaythis information, you will first have tosubscribe to a Caller Display and CallWaiting Service.
For more information on BT’s SelectServices call BT Free on 0800 800150 or call your Network Provider formore information.
Your Decor 310 receives and displayscaller information, which is transmittedover the network. This information willinclude the date and time the call isreceived, and in most cases the caller’sphone number.
If the name of the person calling youhas been stored in your Decor 310’sdirectory, the name of the caller willalso be displayed.
Your Decor 310 will also display thecaller’s details when you are engagedon another call. See also page 18.
The date and time will be setautomatically the first time you receivea call, provided that you havesubscribed to a Caller Display Service.
Calls list
Whether you take a call or not, thecaller’s details are automatically storedin the calls list. The calls list holds amaximum of 99 calls. You can display,scroll through and dial numbers in thecalls list and copy them into thedirectory.
If a call is received when the calls list is full then the oldest entry will bedeleted automatically so the new callcan be stored.
Note
Please ensure that you have stored the full telephone number, includingthe area code, otherwise the namewill not match the number stored inthe directory.

To view the calls list
Press the CALLS LIST button.
The most recently receivednumber will be displayed.
Use the UP or DOWN arrowbutton to scroll backwards andforwards through the calls list.
If you reach the end of the list,the display will show END OF
LIST.
To dial a number from thecalls list
Press the CALLS LIST button.
The most recently receivednumber will be displayed.
Use the UP or DOWN arrowbutton to find the number youwant to dial.
When the number you wish to call is displayed, press theDIAL button.
The number will be dialledautomatically.

The new calls indicator displays thenumber of unanswered calls you havereceived, and which have not beenviewed yet, e.g. the display will showNEW
CALLS 03. Once you have viewed a call inthe calls list it will be removed from thenew call indicator. If there are no newunanswered calls, the display will show,e.g. CALLS 25.
Note
If the call was answered, the icon will appear onthe display. If the call was awaiting caller, CALL WAITINGwill appear on the display.
To copy a number from thecalls list into the directory
You can add a name to anumber, so when they callagain both the name andnumber will be shown on thedisplay.
Press the CALLS LIST button.
Use the UP or DOWN arrowbutton to find the number youwant to copy.
Press the ENTER button.
The display will show ENTERNAME.

To delete a number in thecalls list
Press the CALLS LIST button.
Use the UP or DOWN arrowbutton to find the number youwant to delete.
Press the CLEAR button twice.The display will show DELETEENTRY?
Press the CLEAR button toconfirm. The display will showDELETED and you will hear aconfirmation tone.
To delete the entire calls list
Press the CALLS LIST button.
Press and hold the CLEARbutton for about 6 seconds.
The display will showDELETE ALL?
Press the CLEAR button toconfirm.
The display will show LISTEMPTIED.
Call Waiting
If you subscribe to your NetworkProvider’s Call Waiting Service, you willbe able to know if another caller istrying to get through to you whilst youare already on a call.
If an incoming call arrives while youare already engaged on a telephone call,you will hear a soft beep every 5 seconds(this beep is not audible to the personyou are speaking to).

You can check whether Call Waitingis active by dialling ✱#43#,
Note
Caller Display with Call Waiting maynot work on other UK networks.Check with your Service Provider.
When you have spoken to thesecond caller you can returnto the first caller by pressingthe RECALL button again.
You can switch back and forthbetween the two calls usingthe RECALL button withoutbeing disconnected.

The display will flash CALL WAITING
and the new call indicator will increaseone count. The display will also showyou the name (if saved in the directory)and the number of the waiting caller.
Instead of the engaged tone, the secondcaller will hear an announcement tohold on as you are aware that there is a second call.
If the RECALL button is not pressedwithin 20 seconds then the waitingcaller’s details will be replaced by theinformation that was displayed beforethe new call arrived.
Note
The second caller will only becharged for their call from the moment you answer andnot while they are waiting foryour initial contact.
You can answer the second call,without disconnecting your firstcaller, by pressing the RECALLbutton. The first caller will beput on hold.

Note
If you press RECALL andanswer the second caller, thenew call indicator will godown one count. If you do not answer the second call,the new call indicator willstore the call as new in thecalls list.

Voice mail indication
If you have subscribed to BT’s BTAnswer 1571, Call Minder, or anothernetwork messaging service your Decor310 will indicate when you havereceived a voice message, by showingthe icon on the display.
BT Answer and Call Minder are invisibleanswer machines located at your localexchange which will take messageswhen you’re out, engaged on anothercall or on the Internet.
To enable your Decor 310 to let youknow you have messages you must firstsubscribe to a network messagingservice.
BT Answer 1571 is a basic answeringservice and is completely free ofcharge. To activate the service dialFreefone 0800 003 800.
For information on Call Minder, call BT on Freefone 0800 800 150. This isa chargeable service.
Alternatively, call your Network Providerfor more information.
Caller information not available
With some incoming calls the telephonenumber of the caller is not available andcannot therefore be displayed.
In this case, your Decor 310 providesyou with some explanatory informationabout the type of call received. This willbe in the form of a text message andwill be one of the following.
UNAVAILABLE
The number is unavailable.
WITHHELD
The caller has withheld their number.
RINGBACK
Ringback call.
OPERATOR*
The call has been made via theoperator.

The icon is activated by a stutterdial tone which you can hear when you pick up your phone, BT SelectServices, such as Call Diversion andCall Barring use stutter dial tone sotherefore will cause the icon to be activated even if no messages havebeen left.
IMPORTANT
After an incoming call, or after liftingthe handset, your Decor 310 willcheck the line for any messages. Youmay experience a slight delay beforethe icon is displayed.
To listen to voice messages
When the icon isdisplayed, dial 1571 for BTAnswer 1571 or Call Minder(or your access code) to accessyour messages.
Follow the announcements toPlay, Save and Delete yourmessages.
Press the 1 button to play yourmessages.
Press the 2 button to saveyour messages.
Press the 3 button to deleteyour messages.
The icon will remain onthe display until you havelistened to all of your voicemessages.

If you have any difficulty using yourDecor 310, look in this section first forsolutions to the most common problems.
No dialling tone
Make sure the telephone line cord isplugged into the telephone socket at theback of the unit and that the telephoneline cord is connected to your wall socket.
Check that no other extension is in use.
Display screen not functioningproperly or goes blank
Check whether the battery is fittedcorrectly.
Caller Display messages not beingreceived
To be able to receive and displaymessages, you must subscribe to theCaller Display Service from yourNetwork Provider.
Phone does not ring
Check that the ringer is not switched offon your Decor 310.
Check that no other connected phonesare off the hook.
Check whether you have too manyphone extensions in your home oroffice. For help with this, please referto the ‘Technical information’ section onpage 24.
NO NUMBER displayed
Your Decor 310 checks the content ofthe Caller Display messages it receives.If it detects a problem with a message,it displays NO NUMBER rather than risk leaving a message with a possiblemistake. This does not mean yourtelephone is faulty.
If you continually receive NO NUMBER
messages, call:

General information
Guarantee
Your Decor 310 is guaranteed for aperiod of 12 months from the date ofpurchase.
Subject to the terms listed below theguarantee will provide for the repair of,or at BT’s or its agent’s discretion theoption to replace the Decor 310, or anycomponent thereof, which is identifiedas faulty or below standard, or fails as a result of inferior workmanship ormaterials. Products over 28 days old fromthe date of purchase may be replacedwith a refurbished product.
The conditions of this guarantee are:
• The guarantee shall only apply todefects that occur within the 12 monthguarantee period.
• Proof of purchase is provided.• The equipment is returned to the
point of purchase.• This guarantee does not cover any
faults or defects caused by accidents,misuse, fair wear and tear, neglect,tampering with the equipment, or anyattempt at adjustment or repair otherthan by approved agents.
• This guarantee does not affect yourstatutory rights.
Within the 12 month guaranteeperiod:
If you experience difficulty using thisproduct, prior to returning yourproduct, please read the ‘Help’ sectionon page 22. In the unlikely event of adefect occurring, please return theproduct, with the receipt, to the place ofpurchase.
Outside of the 12 month guaranteeperiod:
If your product needs repair after theguarantee period has ended, the repairmust meet the approval requirementsfor connection to the telephonenetwork. We recommend that youcontact BT’s approved repair agent,TecLogic on 01672 564444 or a localqualified repairer.

Technical information
How many telephones can you have?
All items of telephone equipment havea Ringer Equivalence Number (REN),which is used to calculate the numberof items which may be connected toany one telephone line. Your Decor 310has a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 isallowed, if the total REN of 4 is exceeded,the telephones may not ring. Withdifferent telephone types there is noguarantee of ringing, even when the RENis less than 4.
Switchboard compatibility
This product is intended for use withinthe UK for connection to the publictelephone network and compatibleswitchboards, which support tonedialling and time break recall. If in doubtplease consult your Service Provider.

Wall mounting
1. Locate lugs and mount into holesunder base unit as shown.
2. Swing mount down to clip intotop hole.
3. Drill 2 holes, 25mm deep using a3mm drill, for the screws using thetemplate. Ensure that you do not drillinto any hidden wiring or pipes. Insertthe wall plugs provided and theninsert a screw into each hole. Leave2-3mm betweenthe head of the screw and the wall.
4. Position the product onto the screws.
5. Drop down to secure.
Handset hookKeeps the handset in place when the Decor 310 is wall mounted.
Revolve the handset catch on the baseunit. The handset will now be able torest on the hook when wall-mounted.
