Bemidji State is a university in the pines, situated on the western shore of Lake Bemidji in northern Minnesota. The lake’s 6,400 acres are a recreational playground, a scientific laboratory and an unforgettable backdrop for one of life’s most important chapters.

The campus is set in a quiet neighborhood of central Bemidji, close to the famous statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe, his blue ox. Although BSU is a world away from urban distractions, it can be easily reached from Fargo, Grand Forks, Duluth and the Twin Cities.

Rich in frontier history, Bemidji is proud to call itself the First City on the Mississippi. It is both a welcoming, walkable town and a dynamic regional center, with excellent shopping, dining and entertainment, daily flights to Minneapolis and a top-notch medical center.

The surrounding area offers hundreds of lakes, beautiful public lands and endless trails, with year-round activities to suit every interest.

ACADEMICS

The faculty and staff of Bemidji State University are determined to see students receive the greatest possible benefit from their educational investment. Academic programs emphasize personalized, hands-on learning and share a strong foundation in the arts and sciences. Graduates gain confidence, critical-thinking ability and communication skills that serve them throughout their lives.

Consistently ranked in the Midwest’s top tier by U.S. News, Bemidji State offers a broad range of professional degrees, including business, education, nursing and criminal justice, as well as such hard-to-find majors as aquatic biology, design technology and wilderness management. Many courses are available both on campus and via the Internet, and BSU’s online program is unsurpassed in greater Minnesota.

From their first freshman courses to their final presentations as seniors, BSU students are consistently challenged and supported. Small class sizes allow them to build rapport with faculty whose scholarship and practical knowledge lend real-world relevance to their teaching.

Internships, research opportunities and study abroad complete the experience. The result: powerful learning and enormous personal growth. Rigorous

AMERICAN INDIAN STUDIES AND RESOURCES The American Indian Resource Center supports the success of native students at Bemidji State and is home to acclaimed programs in Indian Studies and the Ojibwe language. The center is a focal point for efforts to preserve the culture and enrich the future of indigenous peoples in northern Minnesota and beyond.

THE GREEN AND WHITE ATHLETICS TRADITION Proudly wearing the colors green and white and continuing decades of winning tradition, the BSU Beavers compete in 14 men’s and women’s sports, including championship-level-hockey in NCAA Division I. Fans watch football from a stadium overlooking Lake Bemidji, and hockey lovers savor home-ice action in the spectacular Sanford Center arena.

DEEP COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT Active concern for the earth’s well being is woven into the fabric of life at BSU, from courses to campus organizations and institutional priorities. The university is committed to steadily reducing its carbon footprint and being a leader in environmental stewardship through research, conservation and design.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND STUDY ABROAD Students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to study on six continents, gaining a fresh perspective on their majors while broadening their personal horizons. BSU also welcomes students from 30 nations as part of its commitment to international and multicultural understanding.

UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM The University’s competitive Honors Program provides additional intellectual and creative challenges for its highest-achieving undergraduates. Honors scholars participate in specially designed Honors courses, have more flexibility in fulfilling Liberal Educa-tion requirements, and are required to complete an Honors thesis.

HOUSING, DINING AND RECREATION CENTER The BSU campus is an ideal place to live and learn. Five residence halls, all with their own personalities, are home to a majority of students, who enjoy fresh, local and healthy menus in two main dining facilities, a coffee shop and several restaurants. The Gillette Recreation Center features an indoor pool and track, basketball and racquetball courts, and state-of-the-art exercise equipment and fitness classes. A complete network of under-ground walkways shield students from winter cold.

Countless elements combine to make a

Bemidji State education truly distinctive, in

and out of the classroom. Here is a sampling
