High School Graduates
If you want to utilize a dual-advantage by enrolling into the BSc course and doing
your year 1 and 2 of the HND, you are considered a degree student at AMET with
the assurance of a guaranteed progression into the Year 3 of the part-time course.
What is HNC or HND?
If you are not sure that you want to go the whole hog with a degree, you might want
to consider a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
Both courses are undergraduate qualification (like a degree) but they take less
time to complete, and are often designed to prepare you for a specific career in
shipping, accountancy, travel & Tourism and computing.
What is HND?
A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a work-related course provided by higher and
further education colleges in the UK. A full-time HND takes two years to complete,
or three to four years part-time. Generally an HND is equivalent to two years study
at a university.
All HND courses are composed of 16 Higher National Unit Credits. One Credit Unit
is equivalent to 40 hours of learning.
The typical entry requirement for an HND course is one of the following:
To passes at Higher Secondary or above
GSVQ Level III
A program of National Units relevant to the HND course you wish to study.
An equivalent qualification.
What are the benets of an HND or HNC?
The courses are vocationally focused and therefore leads to build a professional
maritime career. Most graduates continue at sea and become a Chief Engineering
AMET University has been recognized by Director General of Shipping (DG Shipping) for conducting Marine Engineering and Nautical Science Courses.
AMET has been conferred with Deemed University Status under De Novo category on August 2007 by University Grants Commission as per Sec.3 of UGC Act, 1956.
AMET University is certified to ISO 9001:2015 QMS Standard by Det Norske Ver i tas for Design, Development and Conducting Maritime Training C o u r s e s , P r o g r a m m e s , E x a m i n a t i o n s a n d Assessments.
Det Norske Veritas- Germanischer Lloyds (DNV-GL) world renowned Classification society bestowed the highest Grade A1 (Outstanding) to AMET UNIVERSITY after intensive inspection for the Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) conducted under the authority of Director General of Shipping, Government of India.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission has assessed AMET and accredited with B Grade during November 2015. Why Need for a Degree?
While the HND graduates can enroll into a degree program after HND, and
complete that in 1 year, it is only available at UK universities. Many students
would find it unaffordable because of a high “opportunity cost” due to lost
income, higher tuition fee and high cost of living in the UK.And, without a
university degree HND graduates are unable to strengthen their scholastic
and social aspirations since they will be unable to progress into Post
Graduate studies or undertake PhD Research.
B.Sc. Ship Operations Management
AMET University has come up with and innovative idea of providing a
Bachelor degree Certificate program for the candidate holding HND Nautical
Science or HND Mechanical/ Marine Engineering certificate. It will be a one
year study that leads to the BSc degree in Ship Operation Management
exclusively conducted by this University. Candidate can join the course,
either after completion of HND Nautical Science and/or while employed. Its
like “Learn while you Earn”
This is similar to one year top-up course like the other BSc program, but with
specialization in the areas of Ship Operations Management. Senior Deck or
Marine Engineering Officers could also enroll into this top-up program.
The Uniqueness of this course is in its student centeredness, flexibility and
affordability. This course is conducted as a part time one year online
program and facilitating learning through electronic media. Students can
enroll into this course by online registration and paying the required fee.
The BSc curricula follow the HND Nautical Science or HND Marine
Engineering curricula in the 1 and 2 year of the program. The year 3 is
designed as an advanced level study, which will help the HND graduates to
expand their career scope in maritime industry as mid-level managers. This
program could also be attractive for Master, Chief Engineer, Chief Mate, 2nd
Engineer, 2nd Officer and Class 4 Engineer who aspire to become a
university graduate.
