Why study Cosmetic Science

• The industry of everyday cosmetic and personal care products is

lucrative, heavily scientific, expanding and highly regulated,

constantly seeking to formulate innovative products

– “Every year a quarter of all cosmetic products on the market are improved or are

developed completely new; with over 25,000 scientists and 520,000 science students

in Europe” (CTPA)

– “Cosmetics accounted for 10% of all patents granted in the EU in 2009” (CTPA)

• Rapidly growing market

– UK’s beauty and personal care market was worth £17 billion in 2014 and is growing

year-on-year

There is a need for appropriately qualified cosmetic

scientists!
