The BS in RS Advisement Session
Discuss program requirements1. Academic performance
Cumulative GPA – 2.5 minimum
2. Four (4) Writing Intensive Courses (2 in Gen Ed, 2 in major)
3. One (1) Interdisciplinary Course (Can be combined)
Review your transcript, academic plan and progress Discuss and/or select General, CT or MR Concentration Select courses to register for the upcoming semester
BS in Rad Science Concentrations
The Bachelor’s program has three (3) concentrations that students can choose from. They are as follows:
General: This option is great for students seeking the degree and already possess advanced certification or have no interest in other modalities.
CT: This option is great for those who are seeking the degree, as well as advanced certification in CT.
MR: This option is great for those who are seeking the degree, as well as advanced certification in MR.
Note: CT and MR include clinical training that is carried out 2-nights/week at hospital affiliates.
BS in RS Admission Requirements
Candidates for the BS in Radiological Science must have completed their AAS or certificate program in either radiologic technology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine or radiation therapy.
Students must present their board certifications and state licensure during their first advisement session.
BS minimum GPA is 2.5. BS Enrollment is open year-round. BS Gen Ed classes are offered in day-time and
evening while RAD majors in the evening and online.
Advantages of BSRS Degree
Radiology is advancing fast, it is not possible to appreciate and apply all important materials within 2 years in an AAS program.
Beyond AAS, for the next 1.5-2 years, BS students learn advance concepts and integrate multiple modalities like ultrasound, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology and radiation therapy.
MRI & CT specialties are hard and a BS with MR/CT gives just enough time to absorb and practice simple and advance MR/CT methods.
Master’s are becoming increasingly a necessity in healthcare. A strong BS in RS helps AAS students to appreciate and choose most appropriate Master’s suitably, often with scholarships, in the areas below: Conventional: Public Health, Education, Phys Asst/Radiol Asst, MBANew ones: Biomed Eng, NeuroSci, Tissue Eng, Translational Medicine.
BS Gen Ed classes are offered in day-time and evening at multiple CUNY colleges while most RAD classes are offered on City Tech campus in the evening and, a limited few, online.
FAQs: BS in Radiological Science
How many credits can I transfer from my associate degree in RT, US, NM, and Rad Therapy? R. You may transfer up to 66 credits from any of the above programs.
I have other college credits that are not from my associate degree in medical imaging. Can I apply these credits toward the BS program. R. Yes - as long as these credits are transferable; keeping in mind that at least 31
credits must be completed at City Tech, called residency credits. I studied from a non-degree, hospital-based RT program. How many credits
can I transfer from such a program? R. You may transfer up to 41 credits toward the BS program.
I like to enroll in BS Rad program, I only have an associate in Liberal Arts. R. BS Rad is only for medical imaging practitioners with education and licensure in
Radiology fields. If you are not from X-ray, Ultrasound etc as above then you are not eligible for BSRS, please see our PowerPoint for the AAS in Rad Technology.
I work during the day. Can I attend the BS program in the evening? R. Yes – the BS program is ideal for technologists who work during daytime hours.
What are hospital hours & hospital training duration for MRI or CT programs? R. Flexible – choose 6-8 hrs/week; approx 10 months needed for full clinical learning .
FAQs: BS in Radiological Science
How long will it take me to complete the program? R. Program length will vary among students. It is mostly based on the number of
credits that must be completed in residence and course load per semester. Unlike the associate program, this one was designed to accommodate students who are working part time or full time. Classes may be taken during the day or evening hours.
What type of degree will I get when I have finished the program? R. You will be awarded a bachelor of science degree with major in General area or
in MRI or in CT. MRI & CT requires hospital training for approx 10 mo. I am an international student with ARRT and NYS licensure. Can I still apply to
the program? R. Yes – simply contact the International Students Office at 718-260-5509 or send
an email to Ms. Villanueva at: [email protected]. Apply EARLY if you have any foreign COLLEGE or HS transcripts.
What should I do if I am unable to register for a RAD course? R. You should report the issue to the program director, Dr. Subhendra Sarkar, or the
chairperson, Prof. E. Lespinasse. They will assist you in registering for the course if seats are available. Most of RAD courses require dept permission, ask for it early.
Usually there are 2 HOLDS, one for college advising and one for dept advising after which you can register, so start early.
