Client is interactive and self sufficient but unable to drive or be alone for long periods. Travel companion, accompany to doctor appointments and outings, prepare meals, light housekeeping, assist with daily living.

Client needs assistance in hygiene, bathing, ambulation. Meal preparation, light housekeeping. Needs assistance in daily living routine.

Client in hospital, nursing home, assisted living, at home recuperating from surgery, etc. Assist with personal hygiene, changing of bed linens, feeding, and bedside care. Will prepare meals and provide light housekeeping.

Provide caregivers to give family members time off.
Act as liaison for family members living out of town by accompanying client to medical or rehab appointments. This provides a direct link with health care professionals and the designated family member (s).

The Wellness Express Health Risk Assessment is designed to help individuals identify areas in their lifestyle where behavior changes need to be made to reduce risk factors for disease, disability and death.

vitamins, it is not excreted quickly in the urine. Small

There are several reasons WHY.

A half-century ago, MDs commonly administered vitamin B12 shots to their patients. As prescription drug development and use increased, vitamin B12 use declined. As naturopathic physicians have re-emerged in the health care picture, so has vitamin B12 use.
Why Is Vitamin B12 So Important?
Vitamin B12 helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells, and is also needed to make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. While it is well known to prevent pernicious anemia, it can also play an important role in preventing fatigue, insomnia, depression, cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, loss of appetite, soreness of the mouth or tongue, poor memory and senile dementia. It has also been helpful in certain types of arthritis, asthma, infertility, multiple sclerosis, shingles and ringing in the ears.
Why Do B12 Deficiencies Exist?
Vitamin B12 is naturally found in meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, eggs and fortified breakfast cereals. However, it can be difficult to absorb from animal products, especially in people with certain digestive imbalances. One cause is low hydrochloric acid in the stomach. This can be aggravated by chronic use of prescription and non-prescription acid blockers (like Prilosec). Low HCL is also common in elderly populations. The presence of a bacterium associated with stomach ulcers has also been associated with low B12 levels.

B12’S Impact
B12 shots deliver far more B12 into the system than supplements, and avoid absorption difficulties. B12 is virtually non-toxic and, for most people, the shots are nearly painless. Below are several conditions for which B12 has been shown to be valuable.
Fatigue
Fatigue can be present for many reasons. These include lack of sleep, inadequate nutrition, and lack of stable blood sugar levels, use of stimulants that cause the body to “crash” a few hours later, and long-term stress. In the absence of diagnosed anemia, many people find that B12 gives them an energy boost, both short- and long-term. Athletes have reported increased endurance as well.
Insomnia
People often report improved sleep with B12 shots. Vitamin B12 influences melatonin secretion, which tells the brain to go to sleep. Winter depression also has been linked to imbalanced melatonin levels.
Depression
Research shows that those who suffer from depression respond better to drug treatment if they have high levels of vitamin B12 in their blood. One theory states vitamin B12 helps play a role in the manufacture of brain chemicals, a shortage of which is believed to be linked to depression. Another theory is that people diagnosed with depression have low plasma levels of cobalt, the mineral that forms the center of the B12 molecule.
Heart Disease
Homocysteine, a nerve and blood vessel toxin, is produced by imbalanced biochemical processing in our body. It has been associated with higher levels of death by heart disease and stroke. The cause of this production has been tied to deficiencies of several B vitamins, including B12. High levels of Homocysteine have also been predictive of increased incidences of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Deficiency And The Elderly
It is especially important to diagnose B12 deficiency early in the elderly because it can lead to permanent impairment of neurological and mental function if left untreated. Identifying low B12 levels that can result in nerve damage is more difficult to diagnose. Low B12 levels in the tissue, not the blood, can cause this problem.

We are ramping up to open the building that will change Lafayette forever in April 2010! This will be Acadiana’s first high volume,
low cost spay/neuter center. Goals for the community’s new center are:b Fill a specialized niche that has been under served
in our community.b Raise public awareness about the importance of
establishing and continuing vet care for companion animals.
b Collaborate with local vets to ensure that all animals in our community receive proper veterinary care.
Increased Veterinarian CareOne of our priorities is to educate local pet owners about the importance of vet care. Be assured that it is not our intent to do replacement spays. On the con-trary, the center will increase the likelihood that—after using our one time spay/neuter service—clients will establish and continue vet care for their pets. The medical protocol we will follow has been carefully developed by the Humane Alliance medical director. The center’s staff will be trained onsite at their facility in North Carolina to learn the most contemporary, safest techniques.

Not Full Service—A Specialized PopulationWe will not be a full-service veterinary medical clinic or hospital. Our center will offer dog, feral, and cat spay/neuter, with a few ancillary services. We will serve a very specialized population and area of Aca-diana that has always needed more attention in our community.
Clientele —A Targeted PopulationOur clientele is a targeted population and we will work together with feral cat caretakers and local Trap-Neuter-Return coordinators, nonprofit rescue groups, and animal shelters. We target neighborhoods with a high turnover rate and/or owner relinquish-ment with Animal Control. The Center will offer low cost services for both low income people and the general public.
Our Targeted Clientele Needs Our HelpOther clinics following the same Humane Alliance model in the U.S. have noted that over 85% of their clients’ pets have never had vet care. Our new center will educate pet owners about wellness care and refer them to local full-service veterinary clinics like yours for their continuing medical needs. b
