Location and Situation

Location

Brunel House is located in the Ashley Down

Centre, the largest city and major

commercial centre in the south west of

England.

The site is bounded to the north and east by

Ashley Down Road, with Gloucestershire

County Cricket Club adjacent to the west.

The neighbouring Allen House, and Muller

House to the east of Ashley Down Road,

both former Muller Orphanage buildings,

were converted to apartments between

2007 and 2013 by Charles Church, thus

demonstrating the residential conversion

potential of the Muller Orphanage buildings.

The vibrant independent shops, cafes and

bars of Gloucester Road (A38) provide the

local amenities and are a 10 minute walk

from Brunel House.

The property is less than 2 miles from junction

2 of the M32 motorway, which provides

access to the M4 at junction 19.

Bristol Temple Meads (3 miles) and Bristol

Parkway (4 miles) railway stations provide

mainline rail services to the South West,

South Wales, London and the Midlands.

Description

Built by John Foster & Son between 1857

and 1870, Brunel House is one of 5 barrack-

type buildings commissioned by the

Prussian philanthropist George Muller.

Brunel House is arranged over ground, first

and second floors (plus basement) and

constructed from Pennant sandstone, with

Bath stone window frames, slate hipped

and gable ended roofs, with an internal

open well staircase and iron balustrade.

The roof and sash windows were repaired

in 2005, with certain roof sections replaced

completely.

Single storey extensions have been added

to the west and east wings of the original

building and currently provide additional

teaching and office space.

The property currently benefits from 44

external parking spaces.

Also included in the sale, is ‘The Barn’, a

single storey workshop premises, of brick

and corrugated sheet metal construction

with a pitched and tiled roof.
